That is a toxic cocktail of (neo)liberal, democratic and white supremacy for you. They want to dominate and do not tolerate other political and economical models to prosper. That is seen as a threat and unfair. They want us to change to their liking. The civilizing mission and white man's burden in the past but these days called wandel durch handel or inducing change through trade & engagement and since post 2018 through hawkish policies.
What they're trying to say is the last few years has made them feel doubt about their own system, and that makes them mad, because nobody can talk shit about western style democracy, not even themselves.
And for once they're not wrong, because if you compare the last 10 years of development, China's governance system is superior to Western style democracy

It's evident the business lobbyists in canberra have received the memo that things have to change else wise anglo american companies are gonna eat their lunch. That's why Labor's albanese is making these noises, it'll be more of the same shit though; labor proved to be as compromised to anglo america when they had a sitting federal minister pass on trade secrets to the americans.
But that's australia for ya, never a true country, always an appendage for anglo hegemony.
Anyone would think this would be major headlines news in aus but instead we have most major papers here except for left leaning guardian choosing to have multiple front page news on a female sexual violence activist scowling at Scomo during Australian day ceremony. The media is manipulated here.
He had famous examples of Qian xuesen and wen Ho Lee as previous major persecutions of chinese scientist by American gov and he chose to remain naive and all in with the system. Hard to feel too much for him. But this case will hopefully awaken other Chinese scientists that they are in the middle of this current geopolitical and Anglo supremacy fight.
