I commented to a story about because of Trump's cuts to research at universities, foreign countries were looking to recruit US academia to their countries. The story seemed to suggest they were all heading to Europe. I'm not arguing that's not happening. I said that Europe was no different from Trump cutting grants because their economies were not doing well following Biden that made them economically suffer so how is Europe going to be funding all this scientific research? I got a lot of all negative replies and they all seemed to think I was a Trump supporting American. It's just like when you talk to a European about the Cold War, they only see it as a battle of over the hearts and minds of Europeans. What happened to the rest of the world was irrelevant to them. Europe doesn't have all the strategic resources they need to run their first world economies. The rest of the world does and whoever controls them controls the world.
Not saying China is a favorite here but it's a lot more willing to spend money on this kind of stuff than Europeans. The joke is Europeans are all about regulations. When you're a scientist, do you want to be held back by regulations that Europeans are notorious for? They want to regulate artificial intelligence. Doesn't that say it all? They think they're the moral compass of the world. You have Americans in Shenzhen operating startups not in the US because of easy access to technology. There have been stories of Westerners going to China with an idea and the Chinese government sets them up with a lab or factory to work on their idea. There are really only two places where you can start out from the bottom and rise to the top. It's the US and in China but these days it don't look so good in the US especially if you're not white. You know how the US has this reputation of being the innovation king? I bet because of growing discrimination against Chinese scientists and engineers in the US, that reputation will soon be questioned. There's a reason why the very US companies and technologies under scrutiny in Europe, the Europeans don't have their own versions to rival.
