Re: Military FAQ

Welcome aboard FSMonster, yes, this is the good place to ask anykind of question about any army. But for you two question, that's not my domain, you should ask Gollevainen (a artilleryman) or Utelore (former tanker). Well I can only answer part to your question.

Yes, the thermal sleeve is made to prevent bending, because there's a high temperature at each shot, and when it goes to hot, the metal will bend, it's like a machine gun barrel, after long burst or long time continous firing, you need to change the barrel because it heated too much and the accuracy is affected, but it's much harder to change a tank gun than a machine gun barrel, so that's why there's a thermal sleeve to cool the gun.

And yes, the middle part is a fume extractor.

You've been looking at Jeff Head's website:confused: ..Depends on what country it comes from. For instance the US calls the 40,000 ton dis. LHA/LHD ships amphipous assault ships while each does carry a mix of Sea Harriers and helos. No other nation has ships that size but some that have "small" CV/LPH type ships do in fact call them aircraft carriers. To me a CV is a Nimitz class or Kuznetsov class..Those are ships designed to operate fixed wing aircraft as the majority of it's air wing.A large deck amphibous ships is designed to suppourt an amphipous assault or humanitarian refief effort.. Check out what global security says.

excerpt...""There is no hard and fast precise definition of an "aircraft carrier" and some smaller aviation related ships are not included here. The Italian San Giorgio class small dock landing ships and Japan's Osumi class Landing Ship Tank (LST) resemble diminuative aircraft carriers, but lack a hangar deck which would provide an enclosed maintenance area. Although Helicopter Destroyers such as Italy's Vittorio Veneto and Japan's Haruna and Shirane have hangers, these hybrid vessels are clearly outside any reasonable definition of an aircraft carrier""

Re: Military FAQ

well main difference is the taks that the ship is asigned for...Amph ship usually is equiped with corresponding sytems, and purposely build large amph ships usually have small hangar and flat top deck for supportive helicopter/VSTOL operations...

Re: Military FAQ

FSMONSTER, thermal sleave prevents barrel warp. Yes the middle of the 120mm is a fume extractor. I dont know how it works but it does work. I have cleaned and serviced them but must of been asleep during part of the class. I never attended a master gunner course so some of the major tech issues about the main gun our out of my skill set.
