Can someone give me details on the tech gap between China and Taiwan now.
I know China has basically more numbers, in pretty much everything so i just want to focus 1 on 1 tech gaps rather then include anything like training or whatever.

and hypothetically Taiwan is still a better more modern force?

No

The PRC has superior fighters (SU-27 F-10 vs F-16), cruise missiles, bombers (hj-7), tanks (Type 96/99 vs M-60a3), and is rapidly closing the naval gap. What keeps Taiwan safe is distance, disinterest, and money.

Distance, the 160 or so KM is an efective barrier to invasion until the PRC builds a signifigant amphib force, something they are not doing with any gusto.

Money, the two nations have an increasingly merged economy and increasing cultural ties that are leading towards eventual re-unifiacation why upset the apple cart?

Disinnterest, the PRC's strategic objectives have far more pressi concersn than the RoC. Energy needs, jobs/trade, border disputes, and a madman with nukes on thier border. Taiwan isn't going anywhere and in the long game China will endure so why worry.

Heavy mortars are attached to battalion to division level forces and provide indirect fire support to such forces. They are typically cheaper than a howitzer for equipping smaller forces. Not only that, mortars have a smaller logistical footprint compared to howitzers. Howitzers are normally attached to larger armies and are grouped together in batteries.

And ofcourse by that Mortars are operated by some tiered bunch of infatry troopers, and howitzers are operated by brave and erect artillerymens, the scientist of the battle field;)

...and that Mortars have usually lesser range and that Howitzers and Guns are the two basic modes for todays artillery. 120mm mortar travels pretty lightly and thats why it can be attached to infantry battalion, where as Howitzers are usually the basic weapon of divisional/brigade level artillery batteries. Mortars are under the battalion commanders command and howitzers in the batteries are usually under the brigades artillery commanders command. But in practice, they both are there to give fire support and if the preparations are taken well, its possible that single squad leader can have all the tubes in the range consentrated into single target if nessery.

Plus

cannon- direct fire, line of sight or very flat trajecotries

howitzer- indirect fire- long range using arced flights can get behind hills with a much smaller shadow.

mortar- true plunging fire (straight down on top of you) ability and hills buildings provide almsot no shadow where a round can't get you.

Re: PLA unmanned land combat vehicle?

There was just a showcase of a small tracked unmanned vehicle a few weeks ago. It's around here somewhere. Read more before you post.
