Ooops...should have read the next post.

So they will build to more LCS in 2018 now.

These guys simply need to get on with the frigate program.

They will have enough LCS going forward.

Since they are going to go with an FFG, better to get on with it.

yeah, my view from the middle of Europe is now the White House got involved in this PORK which the LCS Program has been; this:

so I would be surprised if now LockMart didn't get the contract for that second FY2018 LCS (if approved)

Well, the LCS will all be upgraded over time to the new weapons and sensor configuration.

Yes, they are launching the vanilla LCS because that is what they geared up to build.

but the decision to uparm them has also been made.

I just hoped they would stop at 18 or 24 of those and then do the real frigates.

But, the LCS will get the ASMs, the SeaRAM, the sensors, etc., to ensure that they are able to function in essence as frigates.

And, if they have the two helos capability for ASW, the 8 ASMs, the Hellfires for swarming attacks, and the newer sensors...then that will work for me in salvaging the program.

Anyhow, I still wish they would simply stop building these now and get on with the frigate design. We do not need 10 or 12 of the frigates, we need 24-30 of them.

Completely agree they should stop when the current contracts are through and proceed with the real frigate

Does anyone know how many LCS are currently contracted for if it's 24 or 28 also I was under the impression that the vanilla LCS would stop at 28-32 And the rest of the 52 ship requirement would be filled by the full fledged frigate which if those numbers are correct could be from 20-24 ships and it would not surprise me one bit that could end up being a lot more frigates built as these programs tend to take in a life of their own once production starts

And it would not surprise me one bit if the navy chooses both the independence and freedom classes resigned for the frigates say 14 apiece that way more jobs hence more votes

it's 26; as early as in 2010, PORK has been secured:

"Ships 1 through 4 in the program were procured with single-ship contracts.
The next 22 ships in the program (ships 5 through 26) were procured under two 10-ship block buy contracts that the Navy awarded to the two LCS builders in December 2010, and which were later extended in each case to include an 11th ship. The Navy sought and received legislative authority from Congress in 2010 to award these block buy contracts."

I know but we can dream can't we I really didn't even think we would get this far I'm also greedy and a little envious of the Russian frigates fees 64 VLS all total actually impressed by them for once I'm sure though they have faults
