Yup, thats' the J-8G, Shenyang's 'SEAD on a budget' aircraft. Not the most technically advanced aircraft to undertake such a mission but its cheaper than a JH-7A I guess and its very fast, with long legs. Franky I'm surprised Shenyang hadn't tried this sooner.

CAn You just help me out, why this is a "G" ????

In mind of the older radar (without that cut-out and the missing "stripes" and esp. with only one wing-fence per wing I think that's just an old "D" model !!??

I'm a bit confused to admit, Deino

The J-8G is infact, just rejigged J-8D. You can tell its a J-8G by its rather large payload of air-to-ground missiles located at the centreline where the droptank is usually located.

All this talk of the J-20 reminds me of the J-8, its a large, long fighter aircraft that seems to have an emphasis on payload and range and by the time it enters service many of the J-8Ds from the 90s would be reaching retirement

Since when J-8 is cheap and has longer leg than FBC-1/JH-7?

J-8 is a cruel joke, not cheap to make (~2/3 of the cost of a brand new J-10 whilst J-10 can beat the crap out of this thing easily, actually, even FBC-1 can beat the crap out of this thing easily based on the results of the internal military excerises, thats why nowadays China navy aviation use FBC-1, a fighter-bomber, instead of their J-8, a supposed interceptor, for intercepting missions.

The only reason that SAC still get orders of the crap J-8 is for welfare purpose to prevent SAC from bankruptcy.
