NK moves missile to its east coast for test launch, could this be the trigger?

us/sk/jp have aegis DDGs in the theatre, will they intercept? if they do, nk almost certainly would retaliate, if they don't, is that kind of chicken-out?

Well, At least a Pentagon Department official recognize that they are a belligerent participant to the escalation of tension in the Korea Penunsula that nobody else desires.

Washington (CNN) -- Recent announcements of American military deployments in response to belligerent statements by North Korea may have contributed to escalating tensions between the two countries, Pentagon officials told CNN on Thursday in explaining an effort to reduce U.S. rhetoric about the reclusive state.

"We accused the North Koreans of amping things up, now we are worried we did the same thing," one Defense Department official said.

North Korea advised the Russian and British embassies in Pyongyang today evacuate their staff, saying their safety could be at risk "in the event of conflict from April 10."

"The proposal was made to all the embassies in Pyongyang, and we are now trying to shed light on the situation," Sergei Lavrov told journalists in the Uzbek capital of Tashkent, according to Russian news agency RIA Novosti.

A spokesman for the Foreign Office in Britain confirmed the request in a statement. "The British Embassy in Pyongyang received a communication from the North Korean government this morning,"

The news was the latest escalation of tension on the Korean Peninsula, spurred by near daily bellicose threats North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has made, since the U.S. and South Korea began large scale military exercises last month.

On Thursday, U.S. officials confirmed that two medium-range missiles had been moved to North Korea's eastern coast, fueling speculation that North Korea was planning a missile strike.

In response, South Korea sent two Aegis destroyers equipped with advanced radar systems to both its coasts. The untested North Korean Musudan missile is estimated to have a range of between 1,800 and 2,500 miles, potentially putting U.S. military bases in Okinawa and Guam within its range.

The call to evacuate foreign embassies appeared to be the latest tactic by North Korea to dial up the rhetoric and win concessions from the U.S. and South Korea. Pyongyang has already threatened a nuclear strike against the U.S., declared it has scrapped the Korean War armistice, vowed to restart a plutonium reactor, and blocked South Koreans from entering the jointly run industrial complex in Kaesong.

"If Pyongyang were getting ready for an armed conflict in earnest, it would hardly have asked the foreign missions to leave the country," said Alexander Zhebin, head of the Korean Studies Center of Russian Academy of Science, in an interview with Interfax. "Moreover, the North Koreans would in that case have used foreign diplomatic missions as a shield, because strikes against Pyongyang, which would have affected embassies as well, would naturally have been condemned and rejected unanimously by Russia, China and other countries."

In North Korea today, thousands took part in rallies against the U.S. and South Korea. Broadcaster KRT aired images of students donning military uniforms, practicing their shooting while speaking against "the warmongers in the White House and Pentagon," according to the Associated Press. State television also showed workers from the Pyongyang 326 Cable Factory supporting their country's nuclear program.

"I cannot stand it anymore. We're scared of nothing," said one marching student.

While Kim has yet to act on his threats, the mere prospect of conflict on the peninsula, has rattled investors' confidence in South Korea. The Yonhap News Agency reported foreigners were rushing to unload South Korean shares and bonds, with investors offloading $667 million in the stock market Wednesday and Thursday as they looked to safer investment destinations.

GM CEO Dan Akerson said he would consider shifting production away from the Korean Peninsula if the situation deteriorated.

"If there were something to happen in Korea, it's going to affect our entire industry, not just General Motors," Akerson said, in an interview with CNBC.

South Korean navy is a formidable naval power, the Sejong the Great-class destroyer sometimes known as the guardian of the northern sky has a VLS system which loads 128 missiles, and with three ships of this class they hold a massive 384 missiles

The 6 Chungmugong Yi Sun-shin-class destroyer with 32 cell VLS can further deploy further 192 missiles totalling 576 missiles

JMSDF fields a even more powerful navy, and then USN and you have a air defence umbrella which would be hard to penetrate no matter how advanced the missile is

Maybe Chubby Kim has been shorting Samsung shares and he will calm the hell down again once the maturity date for those options passes (April 10th perhaps?) and he can cash out and buy himself a new golden dummy to through out the pram next time.

His dad was a lot better at this than him. You can only take the foaming mad dog bit so far before someone decides tossing you bones just doesn't cut it any more and shots you and be done with it.

Every time NK pulls a stunt like this, the voices in Beijing saying NK has become far more of a liability than an asset gets more support.

This sets the tone and shows the world his intentions. If this is how he wants to rule North Korea, Korean cold war is going to under go global warming. Ratcheting up tensions is dangerous especially today. As it seems to me that the east china sea is already near boiling point, from China trying to establish it dominance and pressing its claims on its neighbours. weak leadership in the US, reactionary heads in Russia. A deeply worried and angered Japanese who are after decades starting to get frustrated with the never ending reminders of past crimes. A brand new president in South Korea. Bad economic situations all around. Nuclear worries, terrorists, drugs. fuel prices, protectionisum, Honey boo boo, Pirates back from the dead, ethnic/religious tensions and ecological worries.
So with all of this a twenty something joker princeling starts shooting off missiles like fire crackers and pops atomic bombs like party poppers. Is it any wonder things start looking bad? So like the limbo in reverse just how high can tensions in before someone starts shooting. I mean wars have started over less and all it takes is some hot head student turned "Chonsa" with a AK and a chip on his shoulder to kick off a disaster.

kim has painted himself into a corner, so much rhetoric, he needs action to get himself out. he may launch a couple of missiles, then tell everyone, see, I can do whatever I want. but if there's interception, we'll see very nasty things.

Of course he has painted a situation where the US would have no option but to intercept. Threats against US allies should not be taken lightly. Nuclear threats cannot be dismissed out of hand. Giving in will just make him more bold. So we have it tensions keep rising.

Now N.Korea told foreign diplomats should consider evacuate before April 10th...if finally it leads to war it'd be such a relief to everyone, to finally get it over and done with, ending Korean War.

Though there might not be a Pyongyang left standing by the end.
