Rotary wing AWACS is ok but fixed wing has range and speed

Range and speed decide outcome of confrontation

Therefore a CATOBAR is much more potent that STOBAR due to better situation awareness

CV-16 and CV-17 are great but can be caught off guard due to less situational awareness

Situational awareness dictates strategy the strategy dictates action

If you start with less you end up with less

So 002 and fixed wing is a must

where is it?thanks

Right at Xi'an at the factory of XAC ... however it's an old image as far as I know.

IMO it looks like this one, which is dated 23. September 2016

I think we are looking down at an angle, and therefore it looks that way.

Yes that was my first thought. I don't have much experience examining satellite photos, or AEW aircraft for that mater, but intuitively it doesn't seem like there would be enough vertical separation between the radome and airframe below, or that there is enough of an angle on the camera, to account for the significant "misalignment" seen in the photo. But I am willing to defer to those with more experience with such things than I.

I don't think range and speed are the major advantages of fixed-wing AEW over rotary, although range is certainly related to one of the major advantages of the former: endurance.

The other major advantages of fixed-wing AEW are operating altitude (where higher altitude pushes radar horizon out) and the size/power of the array that can be carried. And the amount of cabin space for onboard data processing and command and control functions.

Don't understand what Henri K has in mind Here is what he said. Is he suggesting that Chinese manufacturer make a AWAC component?

It's just showing an EXAMPLE application of liquid cooling system. Could be anything from textbook material to presentation illustration.

According to Henri the company in question has been selected as component supplier for the AWAC program

Now that the cutting of the first sheet of the new Chinese CATOBAR aircraft carrier took place at the end of June at the Jiangnan Changxing Shipyard in Shanghai, several recent evidence shows that the development work of the future Chinese embedded AWACS continues to advance at the Institute 603 Xi'an of the AVIC group.

After the patent filed in November 2013 on a new jibe at four different planes than that of the American E-2C, and setting up means for fall testing in May 2016, as we evoked earlier in the year In the dossier "

", Xi'an aerodynamicists seem to have refined the rear part of the aircraft, including the horizontal empennage (HTP), compared to turbulences generated by propellers .

In any case, it is revealed in a research paper published in January by the Chinese research office, specializing in the design of transport aircraft ( Y-20 ...) and bombers ( H-6 , HX ...), which analyzes the impact of smooth flow on the longitudinal static stability of the aircraft.

Meanwhile, the concrete aircraft carrier of the 701 Institute of the naval group CSIC also hosted the model of an AWACS next to that of a J-15 embarked fighter jet .

This ground platform, located near Huangjia Lake in Wuhan and used to simulate electromagnetic compatibility of the ship, is also under construction - the very characteristic sky jump of a STOBAR aircraft carrier has been totally "leveled" And the size of the island reduced by almost a third.

Everything leads us to believe that the players on the naval side are also advancing on their side.

In the case of embedded systems, it is still unclear which of the three main Chinese radar research offices - ECCC 14, ECCC 38 and AVIC 607 - was chosen to supply the active antenna radar (AESA) of the future AWACS However, that AVIC Jonhon Optronic Technology (Factory 158) appears to be ready to provide cooling components of any kind for the project.

In fact, the products of this subsidiary of AVIC Chinese aircraft manufacturer have been selected to enter the final of the 2nd edition of the China Aviation Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition (CAIEC), and AVIC Jonhon has chosen to illustrate its liquid cooler products On an American AWACS image, for the control station, the radar and the onboard power ... etc.

It should be noted that in the new "Marine" hall of the military museum in Beijing is now a model of CATOBAR nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, on which can be seen side by side an AWACS embarked and a flying wing drone Ready to take off on the catapults.

Difficult to say today if all this is representative and to what extent, but we nevertheless know that the country works not only to counter this tool "interventionist" and "projector forces" that represents a carrier group aircraft carriers, But also to have several.

If one looks at the end of Q3 2019 for the reception of the second aircraft carrier by the Chinese navy and 2023 for the third, a CATOBAR with conventional propulsion, nothing is very precise about the project of nuclear carrier, even if the Propulsion is already under study.
