Turns out there was/were indeed design option(s) for the KJ-600 to be turbofan-powered instead of turboprop-powered, similar to the Common Support Aircraft (CSA) envisioned by the USN back in the 1990s. The platform would also utilize three radar arrays arranged inside a fixed triangular radome, similar to the proposal for an AEW&C variant of the S-3 Viking.
This option was eventually rejected by the PLAN in favor of the more conventional (yet proven) option of turboprop-driven AEW&C platform with singular radar array placed inside a rotodome.
