Note the number 72 below the cockpit. I wonder if this is part of the new low-visibility marking scheme.

Yes, similar to the J-11BS we've seen, but why not also changing the PLA-symbol too?

Precisely the same question I have, which is why I wondered if this is officially part of the new marking scheme or was done for some other reasons.

Or maybe they haven't got around to repainting the entire plane yet.

Maybe they are just doing trials and tests with various schemes ... we've sen other two-digit JH-7As before
