Re: JF-17: New Pics

The electronic warfare system on the JF-17 does sound very impressive and it must be even better on the J-10. As in theres alot more that meets the eye with this new 04. I take it when the higher requirements came for the JF-17, alot was derived from the J-10. Beginning to sound like a smart little plane. I'm just wondering how significant these touches will be when it comes to the crunch. :nono:

Is the "focused interference system" basically China's version of "active cancellation"?

Either way, it gives you an idea of how far China is looking in terms of its jets and their capabilities, a very positive indication and may it continue.

Re: JF-17: New Pics

I hope that you also know that the KLJ radar of the J-10 is an ESA radar and not the Pulse-doppler radar in the Block 52 F-16.

Indianfighter, are u sure? I always thought the kjl-1 was a pulse-doppler radar with lineage dating back to varients of the AN/APG-66/68 radar used on earlier and mid model f-16s.

and just courious, why do you go like "L**"?

JF17 has many weapons planned. Your info is not according Pakistani and chinese publications.

You would now probably say that you haven't seen them... Well, that is the reason they build Fc1-04... Weapon integration.

Re: JF-17: New Pics

Munir, i think the first one is more liek fan art. Im seeing some r-77s and r-73s
on their, which china would never re-sell to pakistan. Many of the other weapons appear to be useless dumb bombs. I dont even see a weapon that resembles a sd-10 on their.

Re: JF-17: New Pics

I agree an old picture. As you can see the design is even older then the pre-production version. It was a drawing to show the design and the weapons. One thing you can conclude is that JF17 will replace Mirage 3/5 in PAF service. It is not having as much weapon load as many other planes but it will have to replace those attack planes. Pretty logical that it will have more then dumb bombs. And it is logical that we haven't seen any other items hanging under it. How long did it took to see J10 with more then a few IR missiles? Exactly... When weapon trials were ongoing or finished. Let us wait a few months and then conclude. Second picture I posted shows clearly long range ASM. PAF stated that anti radiation missiles would be standard. And how much problems would it cause to add H2/H4 long range precision weapons? These days it is not smart to risk a jet at low altitude cause you wanna explode some terrorists (with manpads).

Ajaybhutani, please read the rules. No double posting. And please back up your claims as to why the JF-17 can't be compared to the F-16.
well i started with that.. lemme restate it
1. the airframe for JF17 is statically stable.. while that of F16 is statically unstable giving F16 more agile...
every latest fighter... from EF2000 , F16, Rafale etc etc are statically unstable. while others like mig21 , etc arent..
2. avionics engine etc.. we all know american are way better in this than others..

Re: JF-17: New Pics

Agility is not better if plane is unstable. Stable mig29 can outperform unstable F16 in WVR. There are a lot of pro and contra when talking about FBW.

Looking at the size, I don't think those are long-range ASM's.

Generally speaking, missiles like the Maverick (200-300kg, 13-27km range) are considered short-range ASM's, while AS-17/Kh-31 (~600kg, 70-110km) are considered medium range ASM's.

Long-range ASM's, like the Storm Shadow/SCALP EG are much larger & heavier (1,230kg, 250+km range).

I think the missiles shown in pic 2 are prolly air-launched AShM's like the YJ-8K or YJ-82K. But that is only a CGI pic and so far we haven't seen any JF-17's demonstrated with such weapons.

What I'm interested to see is what the JF-17 will be armed with when it enters service with the Pakistani AF. I have little doubt that the aircraft can be upgraded to carry all kinds of munitions in the future, but for comparison today to other platforms, we can only use the current capabilities and not speculated future capabilities.

It will carry almost all Pakistani weapon systems. This has been said time and again by now two or three aircheif marshals if i am not wrong. That also includes H2(52 km)/ H4 (100+ km) stand off munition. heck even Mirages carry em and JF-17 will replace Mirages in PAF.

Also if you look at the size and weight of Chinese Ashm and the fact that JF-17 has a Chinese radar, it shouldnt be too hard to decipher that JF-17 could be integrated with these missiles and do a decent job as a naval strike fighter in the same or better performance class as Pakistani Mirage-Vs armed with excocets.
