Might be cheaper and easier for Argentina to work out a deal with the British where Messi would take up English citizenship and play for England if they gave the Falklands back to Argentina.

I don't think so, the British are very cunning! At the end of the day, they will take Messi and keep the Malvinas.
Win - win for the Brits and loss - loss for Argentina!

The only think they have taken from us is one single an invaluable moment living for ever in their minds: The "hand of God"!!
They can momentarily posses Malvinas, but "el Diego" have taken their souls, and dreams... and they have really really bad dreams every time they remember de 1986 WC.

messi has no place in england's system, and also would not be tolerated by the obnixious english football pundits.

in any case back to the topic of JF17. now that argentina is not buying a fighter, probably need to look at the middle east again to find buyers, especially friends of Pakistan.

The Argentine Air Force has not stopped the process to choose a new fighter for the force to replace the old MIII. The best candidate, and the one that meets all the technical requirements that are required, is the FC-1.
However, to date, there is pressure from the US to discard the FC-1 in favor of the F-16AM/BM of the Danish Air Force.
If the F-16 is finally chosen, it will be not due to technical considerations but due to political pressure from the US.

Argentina will not be a good customer. They might not have enough funding for maintenance after purchase. So, (no disrespect, but) their decision can be ignored, since they won't decide which jet to buy on merits. I'd rather focus more on Asian countries

At this moment, we can not make a free decision on the new fighter for the FAA because of US pressure. In fact, China's offer for FC-1 was taken into account due to US and UK pressure that prevented KAI from selling its T-50. Not even the consideration of FC-1 has been because of a free decision. It has been the best offer so far within the limited range of possibilities left by the UK embargo.
Finally, for the first time in a long time we can invest a limited amount of money in a new jet for the FAA. And by the way, we can also ensure its operation and maintenance.

Man, with so many international orders and 50x Block III orders from Pakistan, I wonder if one day the economies of scale will be so good that the PLA uses it to replace some of its J-7s and JH-7s.

Sorry my friend, this is not going to happen. Going forward, only 5th/5.5th gen and 6th gen jets will be considered by PLAAF and PLANAF.

Acquiring 4.5th gen future block JF-17 is bad decision when your potential enemies are countries in Asia-Pacific and from NATO, who are buying more and more 5th gen jets, and will be going for 6th gen in near future.
