Might because that Pakistan has not the ability to make the whole overhaul line and design the technical specification and procedures yet. I assume that this overhaul line will eventually be handed over to Pakistan.

Pakistan has been overhauling various jets since long. It is indeed surprising to know that overhaul is not being done in Pakistan. Perhaps the required facility is not yet in place? Or perhaps the fuselage needs certain operations that are not done in Pakistan?

Steady as she goes ... Pakistan Air Force's priority is the production of its required 250 Thunders. At present stage, the critical development of Block-lll is underway. Suffice to say, this take precedence over establishing an MRO for Thunders at this point in time.

Once the Thunder program has fully established itself, with full scale production capability and serial production of Block-lll is completed. Then we will witness a the establishment of MRO for Thunders.

Hi my thoughts are we should consider this facility for the customers who want to or who are buying jf17/fc directly from china for future overhaul of their assets
Thx

Honestly I don't know what the big deal is

People are talking as if JF17 is a 100% PAC fighter

Without China there would be no such project so they built them and will so improve them

JF17 is in China for overhaul ? Yes because of course a full overhaul would require extensive equipment

PAC can do overhaul obviously not as good as the supplier

French engineers still visit PAC for Mirage 5 work 50 years since operational units began

Seriously this is not big deal

The best thing is that PAC will not only have to build JF17 new units but also overhaul and repair a fleet of them

So new division new people more work

It's been a decade older units are gaining flying hours beauty of the project is and was to keep larger % of work in house and that is happening

B1 overhaul
B2 under construction
B3 design finalised

That's over 150 aircraft

In future Uograde B1 go to B2 and B2 to B3 standards

Day by day work is increasing

It was a Good read again. This interview clearly defines the role of JF17 with respect to PAF, being a light weight fighter that it is. It is a separate class of fighter than the medium sized F-16s or J-10s.

The emphasis is on providing a required set of abilities in a relatively modern airframe at a lower operating and acquisition cost.

In its role the JF-17 excels. As 150-200 quoted no. Of total JF17 s which will form the backbone of PAF, it is a huge upgrade in capability from PAF of even 10yrs ago. We don't need to fret, as the backbone fighter of PAF is full fourth gen aircraft with comparable weapon set to any modern fighter out there in our immediate neighborhood. I, for one, am very glad as to where this project stands now.

I just hope that Pakistan s political leadership would stand up to the industrial, geographic and military potential of the country too. We are a nuclear power but we dont act like one. We make a 4th gen aircraft but fail to materialize any meaningful military / geostrategic gains.
