24DMU is the YF-23 type design. It is probably the overall stealthiest of the three DMUs since it eliminates the conventional tail for ruddervators. There was some fan art of tailess delta version but that probably fan-fiction.

LM is having too many tethering with both planes already.
At this state I don't think they can come out with a hybrid plane as a proposal that will satisfy the JP defense ministry.
First No Matter what they choose there will be Teathing issues. I mean It's hard for a new platform sometimes to compete with the last of the existing. This is because by the time the new system starts production all the issues of the old system have been solved unless the old product is so fundamentally flawed as to not be salvageable.
Raptor is at the point where Teething is over. It's Combat level.
F35 is still in LRIP but the JASDF are already buying units. Most of the real issues are already solved or have solutions on the way. Besides that the JASDF is not looking to buy these birds next year or the year after this is a longer game plan "Mid Term" as such by the Time this actually transitions from a paper program to a physical production the issues of the systems of both birds is a non issue.

the fact they "are already buying" only means they're buying: some people bought

Which is the Norm for a fighter Program of a new Fighter Jura.
Not every single machine is sitting in combat condition 24/365 you have a number with older tech that require upgrade, a number down for repair and a number in flyable storage in case of accidents.
Also adding a new system fleet wide requires management, funding, software and hardware work.

Really? Jura that is a weak argument.
The Edsel was a functional car could drive you where you wanted it just didn't match the Popular tastes. IE It didn't look Pretty. Which is a valid argument for A Civilian machine.
Military Machines are about what they offer to the buyer and what they can do not so much do they look pretty Although in the Case of both the Raptor and Lightning They Look Damn Sexy compared to the X32 and YF23

the Pentagon has neglected the Raptors

above)

in its push for 'one-size-fits-all' F-35s, which weren't independently tested yet

(the Pentagon announced exorbitant "kill ratios" in exercises, of course, together with declarations of tremendous success of F-35A and B IOC)

so it's unclear if the current Japanese buys you applauded Today at 6:09 AM are in fact advantageous (for Japan, LOL!)

EDIT
directly related to what I now noticed in last two pages here is I can't imagine what kind of [redacted] mess would a "hybrid" of those two (surviving F-22 and unproven F-35) become

I didn't go over it Jura because we have other threads to rehash a debate of the pros vs Cons of F35 and F22 and we have done it over and over and over again.
No matter what I say to you you will continue to be cynical regarding those programs and I will continue to be a proponent. And most of all There is Time.
There was a Time when people laughed off the Raptor now it's excepted. There was a Time when F16 was ridiculed as behind schedule over budget and a mess Now it's a established platform nearing the end of service.
There will be a Time when F35 is accepted.

I anticipated you'd say Israel has deployed F-35 already

What would be the point this is the Japanese Military news Thread?
And this is in regards to a Program (F3) set to remain in the Either until the mid 2030's.
