look process of elimination was also involved. There are only two of the class both have similar markings in Arabic numerals the first character is the same but the second will either be rounded for a 3 or squared for a 4.

lol, I'm glad that at least I changed the mood in thos thread. I should blur a bit more those numbers but it might be too tough after all. I simply thought that it was already so bad that no one would take that as 100% discrimator between the two in this case ;) @Jura: both ships have the same placement of CIWS and RAM launchers ;) But at least you tried it the harder way.

So, the only way to distinguish both ships (if not by the numbers or the name at the stern) from this angle would be noticing a metal shield on the portside of Kaga's bridge structure which protects the equipement for the RAS operations. That's about it from this angle!

@Janiz

From yourr post above, the DDH on the left has 84 on the aft end of the flight deck, which stands for DDH-184, therefore Kaga. The DDH on the right has 83 on the aft end of the flight deck stands for DDH-183, therefore, Izumo to the right.

That's a very impressive JMSDF force right there.

Would be even more so if there were about a dozen F-35Bs on each vessel...and I believe those two vessels could handle a dozen F-35Bs each if the Japanese wanted to.

They may have to heat treat the decks...but then again, who knows? Perhaps they built them that way when no one was watching.

Nevertheless...it is an impressive grouping.

I just saw your response which was the same as mine.

I can see the 84 to the left and the 83 to the right. They were not too blurred for me to make out...particularly since those are the only two numbers possible...unless some one thought one was either the Hyuga or Ise...but then it would be 81 or 82 and those two are clearly not one of those.

I concur, but based on the CIWS placements:

I first tried to find the answer using google LOL which led me to "... Kaga will likely also be armed with two Raytheon Sea RAM RIM-116 systems and two Mk 15 Vulcan Phalanx close in weapons systems." inside

EDIT liked the quiz because an answer wasn't available after just running the picture through images.google.com LOL
Yes, the difference in armament can also give it away...but the 84 and the 83 were my very first and fast answer...and they were clear enough for me to make out ok.

...and as I said above, that is a very nice JMSDF group of ships. Would be a mighty powerful ASW group...and if they both embarked 8-12 F-35Bs, they would be able to do a lot more too.

Back to the topic.

And on Izumo Phalanx is bad placed for F-35B move it and put thermal coating...

Indeed you entertain us well :) but necessary to move the Phalanx on Izumo for F-35B bad placed
But for sure except USMC, UK, Italy right now only 2 coutries have serious plans for F-35B Spain logic and Turkey.

oops, I thought I had seen an image of the Kaga with a Sea RAM in the bow before posting

but I'm unable to find now what I saw then LOL (probably was some CGI) and I of course have to acknowledge I got a good answer for a wrong reason LOL!
(it's not exactly a Sea RAM here:

LOL)

but as I said,
