Re: J-xx

The J-XX in my humble opinion seems to be more similar to the F-35 JSF Programe than the F-22 Air Superiority Fighter. It looks smaller and a bit more oriented on speed and stealth than the F-22. But, and this has probably been asked before, is the J-XX capable of STOL flight?

And by-the-by, I have heard of the YF-23 Programe before, but know little details about it. It looks like a combination of SR-7 and F-22. What exactly is the history of this fighter?

Re: J-xx

so far, not much information is available on the J-xx.. it might be two planes. my sources say (my great uncle working in 611 breau told me) that 611 is working on the next generation fighter and also upgrading the J-10. while shenyang 601 is also working on a next generation fighter. and that's all he's willing to reveal to me, everything else is pretty much top secret.

the YF-23 was competing with F-22 to become the next generation fighter for USA. but YF-23 was more expensive (considering how expensive F-22 is, wonder how much F-23 would cost). it actually showed better performance than F-22. also features some of the key characteristics that F-22 have like stealth and supercruise. there's plenty of info online on it... just google it.

your uncle works at 611? That's pretty awesome. btw, what's the difference between 611 and 132?

Yeah, what you are saying pretty much matches what I've heard from the so called experts on Chinese forums.

Re: J-xx

I am wondering, why is Shenyang working on the new J-10, rather than Chengdu, the designer of the original J-10? And why isn't Chendgu given any next-generation projects? Didn't Chengdu design the most modern Chinese fighters (J-10, FC-1)?

Re: J-xx

611 is working on J-10 improvements, just read my previous post again. and they are working on something newer than J-10. in fact, last time i visited my great uncle, he has already been switch from the J-10 project to the next big project (i'm assuming that's the 611's J-xx). my great uncle was one of the lead engineers for the J-10 project, i don't know what he does there, bc that's classified, btw. if anyone want to know.. the main lobby for 611 looks like any corporate office, except they got a lot of pics of planes on the walls, they just got a new office building 2 years ago. it's like one block away from the 611 housing apartments. my great uncle is ranked colonel in the PLAAF, and worked on J-7, J-8 and J-10. a while ago (before J-8 came out), he actually went to pakistan to check out a russian MiG, which had maintance problems so had to undergo repairs in pakistan. before the russian techs got there, pakistan got him to go there and check it out, the guards just look the other way.

really? Isn't J-8 produced by SAC though? How come your uncle also worked on that?

But yeah, that one question I've been wondering about is the relationship between 611 and 132. They seem to both be used to describe CAC, I'm not sure what bureau 132 is.

I guess everything else he does is confidential?

That just sounds weird to me. What was that Russian Mig doing in Pakistan?? The only time russians entered pakistan Airspace was when they were occupying Afghanistan and the way they were greeted was rather hostile.
Was it that pakistan allowed Russian planes to fly over paksitan from say...India, recently??Even that would sound improbable. but does sound interesting.
I hope you could shed more light on it(what mig was it by the way??).

Re: J-xx

i was not told what Mig it was, just that it needed repair. so i'm assuming that the mig had some problems and had to land in pakistan for a emergency. pakistan and china are like best buds, and pakistan don't like russia, i don't see why they won't want china to have a look at the plane. i'm sure they both like to screw russia over at the time.

the bureaus are differnt, but they still share technology, and chengdu is much closer to pakistan than shenyang. it was basically beijing got phone call, then beijing calls chengdu, and he leaves in 20 minutes for pakistan too. he said he basically had one night to work on the mig because the russians will be there the next day.

no idea what's the different between 611 and 132, just knows he works for 611.
