Re: New Generation Fighter

Oh goody as last seen in the Korean war. I believe that only some F35's will have a cannon, the T50's have, so do you think the J-20 will have any?

J-20 definitely will -- 'tis almost a no-brainer -- the PLAAF know the value of guns and close in dogfighting.
I think it's only the STOVL F-35's which wont' have cannons due to the lack of internal space from the addition of the lift fan. Shouldnt' be much of a problem though -- they'll be working for the US marines and probably will be providing CAS rather than dogfighting enemy aircraft. Leave that to USAF and USN.

(And there've been dogfights with guns after the korean war as well -- during vietnam US F-4s were creamed by Migs because they relied on faulty missiles and didn't have installed guns).

Until now, I'm not convinced of photos autenticity. This Soviet style star at rudder is very similar to some MiG 1.44 images. Chinese prototypes normally use factory painting schemes. I believe J-XX will fly soon, in one or two years, but this would be kept under very secretive circunstances.

Cheers

In the second picture for the front landing gear you can see the saw tooth serrations. Now we need closer pictures to check for more serrations and also a plan or bottom view to see if the main wings have swept trailing edges -- though in the second picture, the trailing edge does seem to look "swept".

The current paint scheme actually makes the details very hard to make out, it's hard to tell if there are "side" weapon bays in front of the landing gear like the F-22.

Also visible is the DSI bumps, the chines on the nose and the "2001" designation.

Initial reports from reliable sources state that the new generation (J-20) stealth fighter has an internal 30-mm single barrel cannon; similar to that in the Su-27 Flanker - a GsH-301. And the same sources also claim that the aircraft will have an ISRT and AESA radar. Plus there is a retractable in-flight refueling probe as well.

Lol you should've waited for a few minutes to see the pictures I just posted... If you zoom in on the first picture in my post you can clearly see the chinese numerals for "8 1", which is painted on all PLA vehicles. It's not a soviet red star.

And yes it will fly quite soon. But more like in one or two weeks rather than one or two years.

Elegant 3/4 perspective of China's J-20 Firefang. Beautiful lines.

The ubiquitous supply truck in the way!

People are just hung up on the star. I just watched the movie 2012 on cable TV. All the Chinese helicopters had that same star. And without the ribbon. A Hollywood movie confirmed it.

I don't know if you were making a joke or not, and if you weren't, I apologize, but I laughed so hard. As ever, Mace, your logic is flawless. :D .

EDIT:
Wow, great images.
