The last I'll say on this matter. If you really think that western media is intentionally trying to create the misconception that the military is acting independent of Chinese leadership then why are they so inconsistent about whether Chinese leadership knows about the first flight? One line says Gates was informed that the first flight was independent of his visit, and another says that when Gates brings up the J-20 the civilian leadership seem surprised as if they don't know what he's talking about. The inconsistency smells of sloppy journalism. If they really wanted to create the misconception that the military was acting independently they would have ironed out that discrepancy.

Wow, that -clearest yet- pic from below has me wondering whether or not the prototypes have weapons bays, or if that saw-tooth pattern is so effective that we can't even see the seals.
As far as Gates' responses to the test-flight, we can parse the reported interaction between Gates and the Chinese political leadership endlessly, but I'll add this: often in dpilomatic discourse, it is considered a victory if one can pigue one's adversary into communicaing directly. Thus, as Gates, supposedly acknowledged asking about the flight directly, and consequent to the "offical response", supposedly subsequently offered -what many think is- a questionable representation of the circumstances, we could interpret that the Chinese leadership learned more about American intentions in this meeting than otherwise. That, in diplomatic relations, is always condsidered a victory.
We'll see what happens when Hu meets with Obama. I think Obama's gon'na try to talk tough and get rebuffed by the president of the nation with the world's largest foreign currency reserves. $285,000,000,000,000.00!!!

Seems inconsistent with Obama's Foreign Policy. He's been very reluctant to talk tough to China, and has only consistently done so during the last year or so for the midterm elections.

according to Wen wei pao, the overall length is 21 meter, this is 2 meter longer than F-22. one is power by WS-10 variant, the other power 117S engine.
