I just read three days of postings on J-20 and I want to make just one remark. Carlo Kopp in his moderately interesting piece said that the Chinese designed the plane based on stolen US concepts and details. That suggests, that they built physical models using those concepts and details to find an acceptable design. The reasonable method is to develop mathematical representations of the several concepts and investigate them using your super-computers.

What happened to the old thread???

I see this thing hasn't flown yet, either.

Guess I'm a typical American, with a short attention-span, but I've lost interest and confidence in this phenomenon.

The more I've seen pics of this static display prop, the more I'm convinced that the J-20 is a modification of the Mig 1.42/44 which demonstrates little innovative sophistication.

In that sense, it continues the Chinese practice of progressive development of imported designs, which is not -at all- impressive.

My analysis could be quite incorrect, but, it could also be quite correct.

Dooh.. I posted a link above..here it is again..Also it's a sticky thread at the top of the Air Force forum.

Well, dooh, why was it closed?

LOL!!!

We mods felt it was too long and really two threads. The first part was just rumors.. the second part was the unveiling of the J-20. Now we await the first official flight of the J-20. Frankly I don't know what's taking so long..

Yes, they took that MiG, pasted the front end of the F-22 onto it by copying it from pictures, redesigned the intakes by shifting the entire front end of the fuselage down and moving them to the sides, then used the data they stole from the F-35, and in one year put it all together into a display prop that doesn't move. :D .

So, I see that we're in agreement??? :)

And, btw, y'all can read all the anti-Chinese bias you want into my statements. It ain't there. What is being expressed is a dashed hope and an unfulfilled expectation, much my like my neighbors who expected the Saints to win on Saturday!

Entirely different front fuselage, inlets, canopy, wing shape (including the leading edge), vertical stabilizers, internal weapon bays etc.

Mikoyan I.44 was developed from MiG-29, while J20 is from J10, pretty much unrelated I reckon. I.44 & J20 only resemble each other for adopting canards, that's about it.

Yes a static prop with real engines doing high speed taxi runs. I'm impressed by the amount of professionalism that is being demonstrated here.

I do have a question for everyone here ......... What are the thoughts of the Chinese on the Stealth characteristics of 'Plan-Form Alignment'. Does this conform with the Chinese concept of stealth and what are the chances that once the finalist is approved in the Stealth Fighter competition, that the chosen fighter's design would be refined to meet the requirements, like what happened with the U.S F-22A Raptor?
