It seems many of these military journalists visit Key Publishing Forum. There was a upset poster trying to say the J-20 was a rip-off of the Typhoon. Then when the first flight pics came out he claimed it was a rip-off of the Viggen. I bet that's what these journalists are reading as experts.
Long time ago i read this little phrase in a modelling magazine, that stuck in my head ever since . It basically goes ( please excuse my translation , english is not my native language):

Don't think i added my congratulation for J-20's first flight on this forum, so here goes, excellent job China!
Quess no matter what the J-20 looks like someone will claim that it is a clone, but of cause they also claim it is a better clone
Let recount what the J-20 have allegedly cloned.

Mitsubishi ATD-X Shinshin

Saab Viggen
If this is true then the J-20 would have the best features of all the above fighters intergrated ROFL

Please use your common sense. The performance specifications for the F-22, F-35, and J-20 prototype(s) are highly-classified military secrets.
For example, what's the RCS of the J-20? Firstly, it depends on which angle of observation that you're referring to. Secondly, no one outside of the Chinese military knows that answer with certainty. How can you answer the question if you don't know the effectiveness of the RAM coating?
Analyzing an engagement with performance numbers that are pulled out of thin air is a waste of time. As they say in the computer industry, "garbage in...garbage out." A conclusion based on imaginary stealth and radar specifications for the F-22, F-35, and J-20 is pointless.

Some of you fellows have no clue what this forum is about. It's about intelligently discussing Chinese military matters. Not bashing fellow members, the press/media or other nations because they make comments real or not about a piece of military hardware. China's a World Power..China shall be challenged at every level. Everything she does will be scrutinized. Get over it. That's how the World works.

Exactly, so tell me what puts you in a better position to dismiss out of hand, claims by Lockheed Martin that a breakthrough in stealth detection had been made. I think you are just like those who dismissed Chinese Claims of a 5th gen plane being around the corner.
Lets not forget the the Stealth is a the sum of many parts, and is as good as its weakest link. Or the fact that many people on this forum acknowledge that China is still a little bit behind in the tech stakes when it comes to constructing and outfitting the said plane.

Are you saying that it was LM that made the claim? Besides not even LM could make such claims about specific RCS and AESA detection ranges down to the exact mile of some unknown aircraft. And please refrain from making false accusations.

I think it is pretty clear that there are two J-20 prototypes out there, each one using different engines so the PLAAF can see which performs better. For example
and a couple of more showing the same:
Could those engines in fact be the AL-31F also used on the J-11 and the WS-10A used on the J-11B?
