A little off topic but has anyone come across this story:

CCTV had aired a special on military training showing a airforce jet , supposedly the embarassing mistake involves a J20/J10? blowing up another jet with a missile. Astute Netizens immediately pointed out the remarkable similarity between the Chinese scene and that of one in the movie "Top Gun".

Ok guys borrowing ideas for plane design is ok :)but pinching a scene from a iconic movie and passing it off as genuinely your own. Shame on CCTV they' re getting as bad as Western news sources :)

I want pictures or videos where the J-20's canards move independently of one another (like when one moves while the other moves in the opposite direction or remains still).

There are witnesses who claimed that the canards moved independently....is that unusual? Does the Eurofighter have that capability?

Are the LERXs on the Pak Fa able to move independently?

Any more info on the alleged "variable DSI" inlet the J-20 is supposed to have?

I see no sign of CCTV ever having tried to claim the footage was real. If you've seen enough CCTV, then you already know they always pull from their own little stock archive of clips from movies and shows as generic filler footage for dramatic effect, simply out of laziness. Cheese it is, fakery it is not.

I have seen a video of J-10's canards moving independently (during pre-flight testing). So there is no reason to think J-20 is different.

Thnx. Do you know what benefits independently moving canards have? Thnx in advance.

From FBW point of view, each control surface should act independently instead of "in pairs", so it can adapt to different internal and external conditions.

For example, if the right wing is damaged (happens to a fighter, doesn't it?), the right side surfaces may act to generate more lift, to keep the airplane leveled. The left side may stay neutral.

That's my guess anyway.

And also maybe to generate more rolls. If they can only move together you van only pitch up or down.

btw does anyone know if conventional horizontal tail fins can also move independently or only together, while the rolling is handled by the main wings?

It's common knowledge among Chinese viewers that this sort of tricks happen all too often and CCTV expects them to be smart enough to know. But already I've come across views that the authority's propaganda machines are out to leak out fake info to the gullible chinese. ;)

correct, during sarah palin book signing, FOX TV deliberate use different footage to make the crowd look larger. but quickly it was exposed as a media fraud.

The moment generated about the body axis by differentially deflected canard or horizontal tail surfaces is to small to be significant unless the wing span is very small. So this was never, or at any rate very rarely, used.
