Wow, PLAAF finally spend some coins to make their fighter pilots looking like their western counterparts....

Seriously, its not so long ago they were still flying like the very backward looking 1960s Ruskie commie pilots.

This is a MASSIVE improvement.... for one at least the PLAAF pilots are more survivable if plane goes down over water - they don't get weight down by the heavy leather jacket and the inflatable lifejacket also helps...

BTW, why are the chinese fighter pilots look CHUBBIER compared to their western counterparts?

they are wearing G-suits, all fighter pilots do!

how could you be sure about that from just looking?

those could be "glove liners", my old man always had those "green wool" glove liners under the leather flying gloves, they are pretty warm when dry, but I fell off a log crossing a creek once while bird hunting, drenched my old "model 12 Winchester", by the time I walked a couple of miles back to the nice warm truck, those gloves hard worn all the finish off the "pistol grip" on my stock. LOL

No doubt those white gloves are for "parade" detail, fighter pilots very seldom "parade" out to their aircraft, unless they are the Blues or Bird's or some other flight team...

Lol, the placement of the watermark makes it that simple.

They purposely select squat and stubby pilot because with that kind of body form They are better in resisting high G force So it is by design not because the pilot eat too much

Oh really, care to quote a source??? Fighter pilots have to be in outstanding physical condition to endure the high G's that are an everyday part of their life, particularly F-22 pilots, they also have a G vest to help address the extremely high G capability of the Raptor....

Most folks wear the lower G-suit these days....

G suits only good for 3 second and if you think how g suit work is by pumping blood from the highest mass of body which is lower body to the brain So by having large mass of body and short it shorten the travel from leg to brain. So definitely stocky pilot is better to resist g force Here is a discussion. And don;t forget that g suite only appear in China in 2000's

G-suit create extra external pressure on the limbs (legs in particular) to prevent the blood to stagnate far from the heart. In normal conditions specific

automatically return the blood from the extremities to the heart, but when subjected to high G loads these systems fail, as they are not designed for such conditions.

By creating pressure on the body the G-suit alleviates the G load perceived by the body.

What is the maximum g that a g-suit could handle properly?

The main limitation is not only the amount of Gs, but for how long the human body can sustain them (spoiler alert: not much)

As you can see the Gs usually experienced in a fighter aircraft (blue line, see diagram on top right) cannot be sustained much beyond 3 seconds if they are of even moderate intensity. The G-suits help the body resist slightly longer.

Yes indeed. I can think of three reasons for the differences:

  • Body type - Short stocky pilots seem to have a more natural g-tolerance than tall thin ones. We called them, ‘squatty-bodies’.
  • M1 anti-g maneuver - Some pilot are better at applying the M1 maneuver than others. [

  • Experience - Over time a pilot will become less affected by G-forces through experience. I also found it interesting that if I went on vacation for a couple of weeks instead of pulling Gs every day, my G tolerance decreased significantly. It would take a number of flights upon my return after taking leave to become as G tolerant as I was before.
