Sometimes different pods for different band. I am not sure if that’s the case here.

More pods = more emissions = ability to drown out and control more of the EM space. Matters extra when you’re going up against an opponent’s EW assets.
Pilot response is literally keep calm and carry on.

He said he used to write little notes on his pad to remind himself to stay calm and to be disciplined.
I have never known someone who really wasn’t bettered by something to write himself notes on how he is supposed to not be bothered by it. That seems like a therapy coping mechanism to me.
On a side note, is having a pen a good idea in a fighter jet? Last think I want is a loose pen pinging around my head when I’m in a life or death fight.
Pen is probably tethered, I thought fighter pilots do have a checklist pads fixed on their thigh.
Nowadays they’ve graduated to tablets.
