You're not trying to save money here. These are for war. Why are they not ironing out vulnerabilities ASAP? Especially factors that are extremely susceptible to the whims of other countries?
Engines aren't commodities, they are vulnerable to such eventualities only to a degree.
China can service Al-31FNs. Ukraine flies on 40 yr old airframes and 30 yr old engines in combat, after being cut away for well over a decade. And that's the poorest country in Europe for you.
Engines don't turn off away in a moment. Not even in few moments.
Finally, no one said emergency replacement is impossible. It's undesirable, but there's option B always on the table. As of now, Lyulka engines are simply better fit for the task, for logistical and evidently some practical reasons.
And, even skipping on deep friendship between two countries, Russia is much more firmly anti western than China itself. China isn't even in a true cold war. Russia is amidst a hot one.

A mutual on X saw this at the Naval Museum in Qingdao within the past week. Does anyone know if this is the real deal or a mockup?

AFAIK based on a very quick online search there was a mockup of it on display in a mall in the city back in 2013, but there's no mention of where said mockup went after that.

The helicopter to the right of the image is a Z-9, again not sure if it's a real one or a mockup.

It's real, I was there in 2022, took a photo of it while some angry guard was telling people not to taking any photo of it.

Why'd they put it in a publicly visible place if they don't want any pictures taken of it

I can't wait for it to be put on formal display so I can get some photos :)

Regarding the red and yellow stripes: This is the honorary patches for participating in the military parade. J-15 participating in the 2015 military parade first adopted it, and after the military parade, all J-15s added the red and yellow stripes. J-15T with stripes this time should also be participating in the military parade.

Should've went for the muted blue and grey stripes.

Shilao and Yankee‘s point of views still make sense

A solution that I can think of is that the 003 may temporarily carry the J-15T equipped with the AL-31F, but eventually all of them will be replaced with the J-15T/DT equipped with the WS-10H. The replaced J-15Ts will be transferred to the 001 and 002 to replace the older J-15.

Therefore, the J-15T/DH of 001 and 002 will still use AL-31F for a long time, while 003 will be all WS-10H, which will avoid the problem of maintaining too many engine models on one aircraft carrier.
