Well, as far as I can tell, te Chinese are setting themselves up to use the STOBAR carriers a little differently that what the soviets intended when the design was figured out back in the late 80s for the Soviet Union.

They were not intending to use the Kuznetsov and the Varyag to conduct US style carrier operations. hey intended for them to principally protect the SSBN areas.

So, the Chinese are attempting to upgrade and make a better design out of the J-15 over the SU-33 so they can get more out of it and use it accordingly off of these two STOBAR carriers. And having that SSBN in the pictures was really interesting because it could imply of course a desire to use them for that type of operation as well.

But I also believe they intend to get the J-15 to carry devent war loads off of their carriers...but it is probably going to mean that they have to fuel up after take off if they want any decent war load.

Right now, they are doing more with their carrier than the Soviets, or the Russians for that matter, have ever done with the Kuznetsov in terms of working them up and exercising them...and it shows IMHO.

The designation of the Kuznetsov class is “Heavy Aircraft-Carrying Cruiser". She was never meant to be a full fledge aircraft carrier. Those 12 giant Granits on the forward deck alone shows she was meant for offensive or area denial purposes and not meant for deep strike missions from off shore.

I am quite sure this coming refit they will be remove and the additional space reallocated for additional fuel storage and bigger hangar. She or maybe I should say he will be more like Liaoning once the refit depletes in a few years.

I've met Russian sailors who referred to their ships in the male pronoun. While I think most ships etc uses she/her I don't believe that is 100% universal across all cultures/countries.

I am not sure how you would define "full fledged carrier". The soviets called the ship cruiser for a variety of reasons, but none of those was a indication that they considered aviation capability less important to the design than might a western carrier designer. The follow on nuclear powered Ulyanovsk class, under construction in 1989, would have almost fully matched the tonnage and entire range of aviation capabilities of American CVNs, yet she too would have the same granite battery as the koztnesov class. Would she also be less than full fledged?

OR...they could be loading weapons in the early dawn. Or pre-loading aircraft for the next day. Never the less it is not completely dark.

Check the USN method for loading weapons....Of course the Chinese may use whatever method they choose.

maybe wrong choice of words but she was certainly not designed to be 100% aviation only otherwise the space that the Granit took would be utilized for more aircraft specific needs.
