J-10 Thread IV

It smells kinda like BS. Last time the Russians tried to sell Iran the MiG-29M they wanted the Su-30SM.
Their air force is big on large twin engine jet fighters.
Also regardless of how many oil reserves China has, unlike the US or Europe, China is not in lockdown so the reserves deplete quickly.

I doubt any hesitation over a fighter deal has anything to do with prices or form of payment, but rather China does not quite want to cross that Israeli red line just yet.

Rumours of a J10 sale could just be thrown out as a warning to the Israelis about actively diving head first into the Sino-US power struggle in that China plenty of cards to play to pay Israel back for any hostile actions.

Although to be honest I am not sure what Iran expects J10s to do against F35s.

Unless and until the J21 is ready and cleared for export, they really are better off sticking with their asymmetrical procurements rather than sink a huge part of their resources into a small number of high end fighters that are still not high end enough to do much to change the balance of power.

J10s in Iran are almost asking to be bombed by the Israelis, which would be another factor that might be giving China pause, as it really has zero interest in getting dragged into that sorry mess. Especially not at this late stage as the world is starting to transition away from oil.

China wants to be paid by hard currency and not by energy resources. "Business is business
This sounds like BS to me, in the post peak oil world, energy > currency ... full stop

Why dont Putin sell Iran the S400

Maybe China can donate some DF41 to Iran for free

There have been various rumours that Iran has been considering to buy the J-10.

Chinese options are FC-1 and J10C (J-10CE?). IMO Iran might consider the FC-1 due to its connection to Pakistan, maybe to draw closer to them?

^^ This might be the sticking point. China has good relations with Israel and the other Arab States, I dont know how they will react when they realise that China is actively arming Iran. Tough job for the Chinese diplomats

No credibility at this stage.

Relaying new information is fine, but appropriate commentary should also be done....
Appropriate in this case being "there is nothing at this stage to suggest that China is interested in exporting J-10Cs to Iran, therefore the entire premise of this article is questionable".

This is even without looking at the author of the title.

totally agree! Selling fighter planes or offensive missiles to Iran could mean a significant deterioration in relations with Israel and Saudi Arabia, and the Beijing still hopes that Israel and SA would not join the Anglo countries in their strategic competitions against China. Also, it China were to sell Iran weapons, it could transfer some of HQ-9's technologies to help bolster Iran's multi-layered air defense system, or help improve the guidance/accuracy of Iran's existing missiles. Those would be marginal improvements, but not enough to tip the balance of power against Israel or SA.

I am tired of this kind of "strategic reasoning", it's cowardice in play with Chinese characteristics. the US meddles relentlessly in China's core interests from south china sea to taiwan, China stays clear, miles away from anything might remotely be americas interest.

Agree. Hard to believe there is hard evidence underpinning the sale.

Also, any sale of advanced Chinese military tech would be stolen by Israeli agents in Iran and eventually passed onto the US.

America sets fires all over the world and suffers blowback and unintended consequences all the time. That’s not a role model you want to emulate!

China has never backed down from any of its red lines, but it’s wise enough to know you can’t fight everyone all the time over everything, nor would you want to.

Iran is a classic case in point. It is nowhere near America. It is only important to America because America chose to make it so. And they can unmake it so just as easily by simply walking away. What are the Iranians going to do? Invade America?

OTOH that is Saudi Arab and Israel’s neighbourhood you just set on fire, and they don’t have the option to simply walk away like the Americans. And now two previously friendly countries are your sworn enemy and you did minimal damage to America. Great job!

Hey bud, we tend to shy away from Minnie Chan around these parts for very good reasons. She has a long, long, loooong history and record of writing nonsense. She has zero credibility. In fact, she's so bad at her job that if she were to become a funeral director, nobody would die. ;)
