Not sure if this picture has been posted before, but AFAIK this is the first time we've had a picture of J-10 with loaded dual rack BVRAAMs (I think PL-15s, note the fins) in the air, taken from another aircraft, rather than on the ground.

Presumably a J-10C

Where's the canards?

Very weird picture, you should be able to see the tailfins properly, but the tailfins seem missing, the ECM fairing also seems missing; and the engine juts out almost as though in a mirage.

Did you mean ventral strakes by tail fins? Those are the same color as the aircraft's body and probably "blended in" given the low quality of the image. As for canards they are probably blocked by the aircraft wing from this angle.

Nice to see the J-10 from another angle ! we don't have a lot of pictures like this !

I don't put too much stock in it, given the low quality of the image, but at the very least, we're looking at a newer and different color scheme for the PLAAF.

Biggest problem is that it's very hard to see the lines that divide the canards from the main wing (you can see a hint of it on the right side of the plane), to the extent that the canards look like LERXes.

Was this the exact purpose of camouflage/color scheme? Blend details and the edge from far sight?

In an era when sensors are better and more widespread than ever, does the exact camo scheme matter and what are the considerations driving modern camo design?
