J-10 Thread IV

Does anyone remember this old photo of a J-10A? It appears to show a PL-11 or PL-12 missile hung on the inner pylon. That's a guided weapon and an AAM! I don't remember this being an altered image. Does this mean the J-10C can actually carry up to 6 MRAAMs? Where the central pylon accommodates twin racks of course. It's generally accepted that the four small fuselage pylons can't carry any AAMs. The range provided by the central fuselage pylon tank should be enough of a boost.

Yes, but this was only for a demonstrative purpose (not actually wired) during an earlier ground display.

Well the Typhoon and Rafale both typically carry 4 BVR missiles with 2 WVR and three tanks when on air superiority missions even though they can both carry I think at least 6 BVRs with drop tanks if not more missiles. J-10 no doubt will be using three tanks to improve range and energy too. This limits it to 4 BVR and 2 WVR. Unlike Rafale's and Typhoon's fuselage hardpoints, the J-10's can't carry BVRs.

Is the J-10's range poor enough for CAC to only use those hardpoints for not much more than tanks and some bombs? The Al-31 are supposed to be rather fuel efficient and it's only using one engine. Why not wire those two hardpoints for guided ordinance like BVRAAMs and air to ground/anti-radiation missiles like YJ-91? Then it could carry four units of anti-radiation or anti-surface missiles if used for such missions.
