J-10 Thread IV

some times I think the debate of whether a J-10 prototype is of B or C variant is a moot point. The Chinese military or Chengdu never gave out any designation of variants. They continuously add improvements to the airframe, only people in the internet forums use B and C to distinguish different batches, so what is the definition of B and C, or D...? Who is to define them? In my opinion, nobody in the internet has the authority. So I'd suggest we concentrate our discussion on the specific improvements, changes, not the letters.
Hence why I think this notion of a J-10C is bogus. This PLA watching stuff is hard in part because people in Chinese BBS have a propensity to treat speculation as truth and make things up.

True, but Huitong has been right and got more insider information than most PLA watchers out there with a proven record all these years. His credibility is a little more than just your average aggregator.
I would say he's experienced, but can pick up too much hearsay and speculation based on how many people believe them. It's not that he's got more insider information than anyone else. I don't think he's getting any sources you couldn't find if you weren't paying attention. I don't question that most of what he's aggregated is right. But the way he aggregates sources always makes me cautious, and doesn't eliminate the need to trace back the origin of the information.

Well, here on SD we are a bit better off than that.

We absolutely know what the differences are between a J-10A and J-10B...absolutely.

This is the first I have heard of any actual J-10C aircraft prototype and I personally think it is probably just rumor.

But we can turn to people here on SD and get pretty authoritative and accurate data.

Deino? Any substance to the above pic (a few posts ago) being a J-10C?

Hi Jeff ... sorry for the late reply but I had some family affairs today (birthday of my son !)

Regarding the J-10C-designation I'm sure it is indeed legit and not only due to the countless rumours and reports but most of all simply due to the new serial number "1051".

We all know the original J-10 following the prototypes were numbered 101x, the J-10S had 102x-, the J-10B had 103x- (maybe a J-10BS twin seater will have or was planned to have 104x-) and as such a new serial number beginning with a 105x means for me it is indeed a new version !

That sounds very logical.

Deino knows a lot more than most the so-called experts. The best of this dude is that he is impartial, regarding his statements on China.

Can't agree more with you A.Man. No politics, no agenda from this man. He might not be 100% right every time, but you can expect nothing but the best of his knowledge and passion with PLAAF. It's such a breath of fresh air especially comparing to other media/experts people regarding China.

No problems...and a very happy birthday to your son!

We had five kids...the oldest (a girl) is not 36 years old and has teenagers of her own! The youngest (a boy) is now 26 years old himself!

YThank you Deino. I guess my question was not so much if there would be a "Charlie" J-10, as much as whether or not that prototype pictured under construction was actually one of them.

As usual, your knowledge and expertise delivers. This makes perfect sense. Thanks!

So pretty much for sure then a new J0--10 version. Can't wait to get the details.
