Foolishness to try and plan and execute such an operation around some politically motivated date. They risk as much or more than they hope to gain.

Am I alone in being surprised that a crater can be created without corresponding blast, shrapnel and heat damage? Some of the boxes on the crater edge seem barely disturbed!

Any higher resolution on the photos and you could probably see the shovel and pick marks. :rolleyes:

Give them a few days and I'm sure bomb fragments will also start to miraculously start turning up.

SITUATION
Whereas at the end of last week, a relative calm reigned on the plan of operations due to Eid and the cease-fire, the recent incidents there have ended.
The strategy of the coalition to embarrass Daech gradually bearing fruit gradually managing to isolate the organization on different planes. Reversals of Mosul and Raqqah remain the next military objectives.
In this context, Syria, Daech organizes his defense around Al Bab and performs a fallback to the east.
In Iraq, Daech continues its harassment activities in the Qayyarah area while Iraqi forces retook the offensive against the remaining pockets of resistance, especially near Sharqat.


The 38 sorties included intelligence 3 flights, 3 flights airborne command and control. They have achieved 10 air strikes. These were predominantly conducted in northern Iraq. They are part of a phase of destruction of the defense lines of the terrorist group near the city of Mosul.

6 SCALP have destroyed a training and production center of explosive devices in the Mosul area. The rest of the strikes was concerned of support missions for ground troops.

Also marking the French will to intensify efforts against Daech in support of Iraqi forces, the carrier battle group with the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle is currently at sea in a training phase and ramp up before joining his area Eastern Mediterranean operations. It will strengthen the capacity of air strikes in the OIR operation.
