ISIS/ISIL conflict in Syria/Iraq (No OpEd, No Politics)

The Russian jet only entered turkish air space for less than 30 seconds but it was enough time for the Turkish Air Force to light up the jet and take it down

A very tight operating envelope yet Turkish F16 scored the kill

Very good timing and very good training and shows how expertly the Turks are trained

Now Russia is going to deploy S400, Turkish F16 have just been upgraded with jamming and suppressing SAM sites, also turkish pilots are fine pilots I would expect them to deploy counter tactics to get out of the SAM kill zone

Over all this is a good example laid down by turkish Air Force and all that training delivered on the day

Sounds more like a well planned and executed ambush to me. I hope NATO makes it clear to Turkey ensnaring the group into a military conflict with Russia is out of the question.

Exactly, the repeated offensive incursions into Turkish airspace did exactly what Mr. Putin expected, he is a player, the Turks called his bluff? As far as Syria getting S400s no doubt they will, and when those radars go active, someone will take them out. They are very dangerous, much more so than the BUK the rebels in the Crimean region were using, when they start emitting folks operating there will take that very seriously!

I don't think the the turks only have less than 30 seconds to do the whole thing. Nobody forbids or prevents them from lighting up and locking on when the Russian jets was still in Syrian airspace (if they ever actually enterred turkish airspace as the turks said).

So, the turks may be good, but I don't see it in this incident. The F-4 incident may say something opposite.

How could you plan a foreign country entering your air space for 30 seconds?

If you are warned, if you are warned again and again and fail to follow protocol you must pay the price as Russia did

Turkey has full right to down any aircraft flying in its air space even Russia

And judging by the comments from Erdogan he will do it again

I agree! However, we must ask ourselves a question. Which is why are the Turks so trigger happy. What do they have to gain by conflict with Russia, or dragging NATO into a conflict? Interesting question.

The F4 was a recon aircraft over Mediterranean

It was shot down without warning by a SAM

Turkey sent a fighter up which engaged in air combat, that is the way professionals do the job

Russia entered it got what it asked for, if you don't want to loses jets don't enter turkish air space

This is not Crimea where people are going to advertise more training and excercises this is real game

Russia has been attacking Ankora's allies, close to the Turkish border, and it's not hard to imagine some overflights from time to time. Turkish leaders probably decided to have things in place to deal with the next overflight, and we saw the results.

Turkey has the right to defend its territory to be sure, I'm not arguing against that. What I said is I don't want my country to be ensnared by Turkey into potential WW3 over a minor violation of its airspace.
