After having lost Tikrit a city of about 250000 people the Islamic State (IS) has now taken over Ramadi in western Iraq a city of about 500000 people. What happened to US air power ? Isn't the US still bombing the IS in Iraq and Syria ? Where was US air power when the IS was fighting for Ramadi ?

Air power can only do so much especially when fighting an insurgent force like ISIS. They also have to worry about colleteral damage.

As much as politicans and most people hate to admit it,the only way to do this right is boots on the ground however we have 2 major problems.

The US/allied public will not support boots on the ground and it is dang near impossible to get anti ISIS Sunni and Shias militias to form a willing coalition to fight ISIS as a well organized effective singular group. As it stands right now you basically have a bunch of disparate groups from many different tribes fighting ISIS w/o a clear hierachical or organizational structure with the occasional bombings by NATO/US warplanes.

You know the old saying the enemy or my enemy is my friend?

Well in this case we could only wish for that because at present it's more like the enemy of my enemy is also my enemy!

While I am normally one of the first to insist on understanding your enemy, in the case of IS, I simply have to draw the line.

There is no way to truly understand their motivations and actions without jumping over the abyss into madness along with them.

There are true evil in this world, and IS is a real life embodiment of it.

There can never be an accord with them, either we kill them all, or they will kill us all. It's as simple as that, they themselves have stated as much.

The only understanding we need of IS is how they act and operate to better combat them.

Problem is, you cannot defeat idea with the sword alone . And another problem : ISIS is not something out of this world, it is an integral part of human society in 21st century .

Nature abhors a vacuum , and what we lack ISIS somehow gives - even if in twisted and evil way .

Therefore, fight against them must be both physical and spiritual - in order to win you would need to go down to depths of their madness to find source of their power .

ISIS needs to be dealt with like the Waffen SS, IJN, Khmer Rouge, Boko Haram, and unfortunately a dozen others.

The biggest different between these groups is that ISIS truly spans racial and cultural boundaries and very effective in using modern technologies for recruitment.
Also over 90% of Muslims in this world are Sunnis so their pool of potential recruits is virtually limitless. Only way to combat ISIS is to kill as many as you can in the present while educating and rehabilitating the masses to cull recruitment. As difficult as the former is, the latter is much harder cause it all boils down to the macro levels of family unit and social environment and local government support.

So let me get this right.
Your solution for a region being terrorised by the indiscriminate mass murder of ISIS is to send in the national forces of the USA to commit indiscriminate mass murder?

Why is these never a face palm emoticon when you need one

Its not what you wrote so much as the two pictures.
The Legend "Kill them all and let God sort them out" applied to a situation where a Terrorist force is hiding among the civil populace has distinctly very unpleasant connotations.
I cannot believe for a minute that this what you meant, so I am suggesting to you informally, that it may be a good idea to delete the images.

I posted those pics in context to plawolf's post that I was replying to originally... and that is also exactly why I added text to accompany those posts instead of just postings those pictures w/o any reference of any kind however if it offends you I will take those pictures off. Personally I do not find them offensive especially when see them in context pertaining to ISIS.
