High-altitude exercise. Fore grips, optics, new combat uniforms, etc. Note the fore grip is the new smart kind, with push to talk and other functions.

It’s interesting that then smart foregrips are only seen with units also issued with the new NODs. That reinforces my belief that it is an inbuilt IR laser to be paired with the NODs for night time aiming.

Especially since most soldiers are wearing their NODs on the right (shooting) eye. So while we did have pictures of dedicated night scopes being issued and used, I think that was for specific limited roles and deployments, whereas an IR laser is far cheaper and more practical for line troopers than to issue everyone with a separate night scope as well, that they have to exchange with their daytime optic for night fighting and vice versa.

Looks like the setup rifle + smartgrip/bipod + elevated optics makes it very ackward to aim from a prone position, a cheek rest (even an improvised one) would help a lot...

Any idea why we don‘t see anyone strapping something onto the butt to elevate the head (if it was me and I wasn‘t issued anything standardised I‘d just tape the field dressing pack onto the butt...)? Rifles not personal equipment and get collected after use maybe?

Soldiers definitely have to return their rifles to the armory if they aren’t deployed in a warzone. For example, in the US military, although many soldiers and marines, when given permission, would buy their own gear to make their performance with their rifle better (typically stuff like pmags and slings), they would have to take them off as soon as their combat deployment is over or when they are done practicing for the day on the range or field. Any disciplined and well organized military does this. Otherwise it’s just a militia.

Not just individually, Units often do this at an organization level. It’s even led to official adoption service wide. In some cases it becomes a tradition like US forces wearing Stetson hats.

Looks like PLA has fully committed to this type of CCD based NODs, I wonder how well these works compared to traditional NVG, any similar civilian products we can compare with?

Since those are digital display, it would be easy to project image from gun sight with the press of a button in the fore grip. Don't know if they implemented it yet but it seems like the logical next step for this kind of setup, superior to IR laser in mid to long range too.
