India Today discussion on India's increasing trade deficit. One of the forum speaker suggested that Indian ought to depreciate their currency while increasing the interest rate to discourage Indians from buying import products while expanding their export products and competitive to the world.

Is this a joke? Would it really work? I’m not an economist but would that cause a whole host of problems?

I started skipping parts of the video when the woman speaker at the 1:45 mark mentioned using a "two pronged strategy" of increasing interest rates and to allow the rupee to depreciate. Those two actions are generally mutually exclusive and directly counteract each other on a macro policy level.

I was also rubbing my head when they said that
How to impress anyone at a presentation: say the word prong. "Here's our two-pronged strategy, here's our three-pronged attack plan". Sounds nice.
