If I remember it correctly, a lot of people had done a great deal of research on this issue way back when the Chinese Threat theory was front and center.

The yellow area you highlighted is a pagoda, Myanmarese being Buddhists they build pagoda everywhere on their land.

There is a small civilian satellite station for myanmarese telecommunication ministry built around late 80's with ADB and/or Japanese loans if I remember it correctly, being an island they need satellite communication as ferry goes there once every month or so.

It used to be Siberia of Myanmar, maybe still is. It used to be a prison for lifers during colonial times, as in Papillon.

There is a small Myanmarese naval detachment there, some aquafarming, and their government fishery personnel stationed in there.

There is only a very small population living on the island. Any amount of Chinese activities on the island is almost impossible to go un-noticed, certainly not over close to 20 years time.

News would have certainly got out one way or the other if was true, especially around that time locals and Myanmarese opposition were pitted against then ruling military regime and that news would have been quite damaging for the junta as their main reason to stay in power was to keep the country intact.

Even by now, if anyone smells something like this happening under their nose, that's going to be a political bombshell for these guys, regardless of who is governing.

So not everything on globalsecurity site can be taken at face value, you have to use your brain as well.

I would've thought a pagoda might have a tower though:

You need to put in more legwork than just copy and paste with these random google map
screenshots for your anti-communist, anti-China patters, which are quite disorganized and idiotic at the same time, maybe that reflects how you think and live your life.

Maybe why don't you ask Google directly ffs? LoL

Excellent points raised here! I've seen,

1. You actually need a superior navy to conduct a blockade. You can't do it if the other party can just send their bigger, better navy to come to your blockade and turn your ships into reefs, especially if those ships are backed up by land-based ASBMs.

2. There are going to be so many ships going through, many flying any country's flag that they damn want, it's not going to be possible to discern your targets.

And I'll add 3.

The alternate path for Chinese ships to reach the Atlantic is through the strait between Sumatra and Java (Indonesia), which is far south of the Bay of Bengal but not even that much farther as a sailing route because for Chinese ships to pass through Andaman and Nicobar Islands, they actually have to first sail south to loop around Singapore and then go back north to the Andaman Sea.

As Vesicles said, India's really desperate to come up with these wily ideas. But the ugly truth for them is that even if their blockade magically worked, there would still be no way they could survive the land assault long enough for China to feel the impacts of the blockade. Only problem is China can't pull itself from the freak-show going on in Korea right now...

India has a lot of folks who talk a lot of rubbish, whether out of nationalistic fervor or simply a desire to get their name in the papers. No doubt China does as well. It doesn't matter what such folks are thinking or saying or doing, it only matters what those in positions of power are thinking or saying or doing. Best not to get carried away with this "someone, somewhere on the internet, is an idiot" business.

They said perception is reality..
A lot indians believe Indian ocean is their domain and if Chinese ships sail through it, they can intercept them. It's a general perception and it influences their political decisions. To counter that perception, China has to setup shop at Indian ocean.
