The incident came to light when the man's wife caught him in a compromising position with her daughter. She filed a complaint against her husband when the girl narrated her ordeal about how her father had been raping and abusing her in her absence.

A case has been registered against the accused who is now at large.

The 14-year-old girl is a student of class VIII in a government-run school in Visakhapatnam. In the complaint, the victim said that her father, who works as a daily wage labourer, had forced himself on her over the past two years ever since her mother left them to live with her parents.

Taking advantage of the same, the man used to bring her daughter from school and rape her. This continued for two years. The man's wife returned a few weeks ago but the man continued to rape his daughter in the absence of the mother.

A week ago, the man again brought the girl home from school and raped her when her mother was out for some work. When the victim's mother returned, she found her husband in a compromising position with her daughter and immediately informed the police.

A case has been registered against the accused under the relevant sections of the IPC and various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. A team has been formed to nab the accused.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The incident is strikingly similar to the horrific 2016 Nirbhaya gang rape
  • The 19-year-old Dalit woman was raped while returning home with her male friend
  • Like Nirbahaya, she was abandoned on the street after the brutal assault
In a spine-chilling incident, the suicide investigation of a man has brought to light the brutal gang rape of a 19-year-old Dalit pregnant woman, in the streets of Udaipur. The incident is strikingly similar to the horrific 2016 Nirbhaya gang rape which shook the entire nation. Nirbhaya was raped while returning home with her male friend in December 2016; the Dalit woman too was raped in a similar way.

Her boyfriend, who was giving her a ride back home on his motorbike, was thrashed with iron rods and swords by three people until he lost consciousness. The accused also snatched away his mobile phone. The woman was then dragged to a desolate bus stand where she was gangraped by Sunil Charpota, Vikas and Jitendra Charpota. But her ordeal did not end here. The three again took her to a different place, called two friends --Naresh Gurjar and Vijay -- and raped her again.

Like Nirbahaya, she was abandoned on the street after the brutal assault.

Such was the ferocity of the attack that her one-and-a-half-month-old foetus did not survive, compelling her to undergo medical termination of pregnancy.

However, the case would not have seen the light of the day had the police not been investigating her boyfriend's death, who after regaining consciousness, killed himself, fearing humiliation. The couple was not married, and the woman was one and a half month pregnant.

The Banswara Police said that the girl did not report the crime, and it was discovered when one of the accused was arrested by the police while the suicide of the man was being probed. It was only when the arrested accused gave the police the stolen phone, that the police got the wind of the gang rape.

Three weeks after the incident which, according to the police, took place on July 13, the mobile phone of the boyfriend was recovered and police found that the victim had made several calls to his number. Tracing details of phone calls and messages, the police reached the victim. Even though the police said that her condition was delicate, she somehow managed to narrate her ordeal to the police.

Acting on the details provided by the victim, the police arrested the five accused men -- Sunil Charpota, Vikas, Naresh Gurjar, Vijay and Jitendra Charpota.

A case has been lodged against the accused under charges of rape, kidnapping, attempt to murder and abetment to suicide.

Police said that Sunil Charpota carried a reward of Rs 5,000 on him, and has a criminal record. The accused have been remanded to judicial custody.

In a shocking incident, a Class 3 student was allegedly raped by a Class 6 boy of her school and his two younger brothers.

According to reports, the eight-year-old girl was allegedly raped inside the toilet of a government primary school in a village in Ramala region of Baghpat.

The local police refused to file an FIR for 15 days. Station House Officer (SHO) Naresh Kumar also tried to force the survivor's father to drop the charges.

The matter came to light on Monday evening, when the girl's health began deteriorating and senior police officials were informed of the SHO's behaviour. He was removed by the district police chief thereafter and the girl has since been hospitalised.

According to Baghpat Superintendent of Police (SP) Pratap Gopendra Yadav: "The crime was allegedly committed by the eldest brother, who studies in Class 6. However, the victim's father has also named his other two brothers, who were part of the group at that time. Whether they were also involved or not is a matter of investigation."

"An FIR has been filed against all three under IPC Section 376 (rape) and the POCSO Act. We sent the girl for medical examination on Tuesday and the report is awaited. Once she is stable we will get her statement recorded in the court and further action will be taken," said the SP.

"I have directed Circle Officer Ompal Singh to probe the allegations of police dereliction. SHO Naresh Kumar was not supposed to engineer a compromise in this case. He was supposed to book all those who had committed wrongdoing," he added.

According to the girl's uncle, "From the beginning, we were asked to remain silent. A day after the incident took place, about a fortnight ago, we had visited the teacher in the school, but she behaved as if nothing had happened. Since the accused also belonged to the same village, we were under great pressure from the panchayat elders not to take the matter to the police as it would bring a bad name to the village. The local SHO was hell-bent on ensuring a compromise. During all this, the girl's health was continuously deteriorating after which we approached the Baghpat SP with our complaint."

A 25-year-old man here in Uttar Pradesh has been booked for setting a woman on fire after failed rape attempt.

The police lodged a case on Sunday against the man, resident of Harkishnapur village, on charges of attempt to murder his elder brother's wife.

The incident took place on June 11. But as the woman was unable to record her statement due to severe burn injuries, the case was registered two months after the crime.

According to police, the 24-year-old woman stated that after a failed rape bid, her brother-in-law poured kerosene on her and set her on fire.

The woman with over 80 per cent burn injuries has been undergoing treatment at a hospital in Bareilly.

Her brother told reporters: "My sister is improving. She spoke to us on Saturday, for the first time after she received burn injuries and narrated the incident."

Her brother, a resident of Hafizganj town, in his written complaint to the Neuria police station stated: "Since her marriage in May 2016, my sister was apprehensive of her brother-in-law's intentions and when she informed her husband, he rebuked her. With the support of his family members, her brother-in-law poured kerosene on her and set her afire after a failed rape bid."

Neuria police station SHO Birja Ram said the accused was booked under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and would be arrested soon.

A station house officer of a Gurgaon police station has been arrested for allegedly raping and then blackmailing a woman by making her obscene video, police said on Sunday.

The accused SHO of Sadar police station Dalbir Singh, who was set to retire next year, was arrested on Saturday after a complaint was lodged on Friday.

He was arrested after an internal inquiry found him guilty, a police officer said.

Singh is charged for raping a woman on various occasions and threatening her to circulate an MMS of his crime that he made when she got unconscious.

The traumatised victim, a resident of district Jind, had filed a complaint against Singh on Friday following which an internal inquiry was set up to probe the case.

According to the complaint, the victim felt helpless and even tried to commit suicide in a lake located in Jind but a cop saw her and persuaded her to file the complaint against the accused.

"The woman stated in her complaint that she had got married to a man from Uddana in Jind in November 2017. After a few months of the marriage, differences cropped up between the couple," she said.

"She approached police against her husband and the case was transferred to the police station in Gurgaon where she met Singh", a senior police officer said.

"As Singh also belongs to the same district, I trusted on him and shared my contact number," the victim said in the complaint.

Singh used to regularly called her over the phone and even got her placement in a restaurant, it said.

"She said on July 10, while she was waiting for a bus to go Gurgaon from Jind, Singh came in the car and offered to drop her," the police officer said

"After crossing the Pindara bypass, Singh drove his car at a deserted place where he sexually assaulted her in the car. He later dropped her to Gurgaon", the officer added.

"Singh next day asked me to meet him in his quarters. When I came to confront him. He tried to pacify me and gave me a drink laced with sedatives. After I fell unconscious, he raped me and recorded the crime on his mobile phone", the victim said in her complaint.

"Singh regularly threatened the victim to circulate the clip if she didn't comply with his demands. The victim under depression decided to commit suicide," the officer added.

Lucknow: BJP leader and former Union Minister Chinmayanand has been accused of rape by a young woman who went missing for a week from her home in Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh and was found in Rajasthan, NDTV reported.

In her complaint to the police, the law student has claimed that she was raped and exploited by Chinmayanand for a year.

The woman, 23, is a student at a law college that is managed by a board headed by Chinmayanand, a three-time Member of Parliament.

She had filed her complaint in Delhi because the Uttar Pradesh police had refused to do so.

"Swami Chinmayanand raped me and even exploited me physically for one year," she alleged before the media, her face covered with a black scarf.

"The Delhi Police has registered this complaint with Lodhi Road police station and has forwarded it to Shahjahanpur police, which is not registering the rape case," she said.

The Supreme Court had ordered a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to inquire into her allegations after hearing the woman in a closed court.

"On Sunday, the SIT quizzed me for about 11 hours. I have told them about the rape. Even after I told them everything, they haven't arrested Chinmayanand yet," she said.

The woman was tracked down in Rajasthan on August 30, a week after she went missing following her Facebook post alleging that a "big leader of the Sant Samaj" had "destroyed the lives of many other girls and also has threatened to kill me".

In the post, she had requested Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to help her.

Though she didn't name Chinmayanand at the time, her father named him in his complaint to the police.

As the case became public and made waves on social media, the former BJP MP was charged with kidnapping and intimidation by the UP police.

Mumbai: Tanushree Dutta feels India is turning into a rape epidemic-afflicted country.

"Our great nation India has been slowly and steadily turning into a Rape epidemic afflicted country! The Unnao rape case and the unfoldment of it a horrific reminder of the state of affairs," the actress said in a statement she issued reacting on the Unnao rape case on Monday.

Taking a dig at the judgemental tendency of people, her statement further reads: "A large portion of news coming out of India is about women and children getting raped, gang-raped, killed by mass female infanticide, burnt for dowry or killed after rape in a brutal gory fashion, or lately goats and dogs getting raped even etc etc.. Like seriously who in their right mind still feels high and mighty about our so-called "sanskaari" culture blah blah blah.. that we tell ourselves to judge the rest of the world that wears shorts and bikinis? There are places in the world where women literally lie down nude on beaches and no rapes or eve-teasing even happens. How are you the "sanskaari" lot then may I ask where women, regardless of whether fully covered or not are attacked rampantly?"

Urging that the people of India need to have a change in their mentality, the actress added: "The problem then is not the cover but your mentality. Open your eyes and understand the darkness that is drowning this Nation Its ironic that for a population that by and large has got its nose pretty high up in the air about it's so-called value system; Rapes are an epidemic across urban as well as rural India. Time to perhaps reassess your values? Or maybe tweak them a bit to accommodate compassion?"

"Rape, depression, drugs and suicide are killing the youth!! Why this rampant decline in human happiness quotient? Have we placed moral, religious and societal values above human values? Then this is the logical end result. Anarchy, pain, suffering and horror! Turn back now people into a state of innocence that you were like as children or a time will come when this darkness will consume everybody in one way or another. There is a need to renew the mind and thought-process of 1.6 billion people. Internal transformation is urgently needed," she concluded.
