How effective is Chinese Air Force in electronic warfare

From the WSJ article:
Officials said the drone technology is constantly being upgraded, which would lessen the intelligence value of the drone the Iranians have.
So the Iranians didn't get a drone with 2007 vintage electronics and sensors of very new ones. What a disappointment to them.

The Obama administration considered sending in a rescue team to secretly recover or destroy the downed drone before the Iranians discovered it, but ultimately officials dropped the idea as too risky.
That's a new meaning for the word "rescue", as far as I know.

The PLA or China's defense industry has to offer high salaries and a rewarding career path in order to attract the best engineers returning from overseas. The PLA, CAC, etc. are competing with Intel, AMD, Honda, all the world's top companies for their skills.

More like Huawei and ZTE trying to offer higher pays for engineers working for 14th Institute. and vis-versa.
Its a healthy thing when private commericial industries sustain the pool of skills.

ELint, Sgint and EW overall require alot knowledge in signal processing, which require people who work in this field for many years.

The way the Iranians achieved the result is impressive. Signal jamming and then fake grid. That it worked nicely can be seen by the fact that there is minor wing (and probably gear) damage. I think it is plausible that it happened the way they said. I think the Iranians have the means to learn form it. We are talking about a nation that still flies F4, F5 and F14 while they cannot get anything to maintain these planes. They did fly above the US aircraft carrier. So, I think we will be surprised to see the learning curve...

This is off topic, but I find it amazing that The Iranians are still able to keep the F-14’s flying after a 30-year embargo. I many be misinformed, but I remember reading that they (the F-14’s) where difficult to maintain. How could the Iranians maintain these machines? You can only cannibalize the fleet so far. Do any members have any theories?

True that even when new the Tomcat was a maintenance nightmare.. especially concerning engines, hydraulics and radar. The Iranians may have only about 12 aircraft left out of 80 received. Those aircraft may be flying with some other type of engines.

Let's stay on topic..

Thank you for the indulgence Popeye.

Question: The PLAF has the KongJing-200, which has an AESA type radar similar to the Swedish Ericsson PS-890 Erieye. Do any of the forum members know if this system incorporates a datalink system with aircraft such as the J-10, and/or a pratical anti-jamming system? By this I mean would it, or could it permit these aircraft to operate with there radars off and use the AWAC radar to guide missiles and vector them to targets in a “stealth mode”. How good is its air-to-air and sea surveillance modes compared to that of the US Naval E-2?
Thanks
