How do you know that the President of China is in town?

Well, found something. It doesn't really show how many people is guarding him but...well just watch.

Also, got a news report on the security that follows him around.

Don't forget, there is always the "nuclear football" near him........

I watched the video. I counted seven bodyguards around President Obama and the First Lady as they walked down the street. I still have not seen proof to justify the claim that President Obama has a "similar" number of bodyguards in comparison to the President of China.

That's a nice touch to bring up the subject of the "nuclear football" and elevate the importance of the President of the United States. I'll give you that.

That makes no sense. The only thing you've demonstrated is that the Chinese like to use lots of bodyguards, whether for their own heads of state or those of foreign nations. That doesn't necessarily indicate the importance of China. Any minor nation can use a large guard retinue for their leaders if they wanted to do so.

Bodyguards are expensive. Convoys are also expensive. The videos that I posted are interesting because the spectacle of that many bodyguards and vehicles in the convoy for the President of China is amazing and amusing. In the first video, listen to the reaction and comments of the staff in the Seattle office that shot the video. They agree.

If you're not interested in videos of an inordinate number of bodyguards and a dizzying number of vehicles in a convoy then that's your prerogative. However, for the rest of us, there are many who find it fascinating. Reading the YouTube comments for the video should provide you with a clue.

For the same reason, it is often noted that the President of the United States travels on official business in a noticeably large Air Force One, Boeing 747. Your argument that "any minor nation" can buy or lease a 747 as well is merely theoretical and uninteresting.

The bottom line is that if a heckler wants to barge into someone's thread and declare his videos as "So there you go. Nothing out of the ordinary really." then that heckler should back up their comment with proof. Otherwise, they should retract their comment or go and troll in some other thread.

First of all, you're the one who's arguing that China is important because it provides heads of state lots of bodyguards and a large convoy. I'm telling you that for governments, bodyguards and convoys are NOT expensive.

Secondly, a Boeing 747 is NOT a convoy. How much does 20 cars cost? How much does a 747 cost? How much training does a driver need? How much training does a 747 pilot + co-pilot need? The two aren't even remotely comparable, so I have no idea why you're even bringing it up.

I don't want to keep going around and around in circles with you. I have encountered plenty of Indians who pollute my threads on other forums. You have made your point repeatedly. I would appreciate it if you stop interjecting yourself into the middle of the conversation that I'm having with Spartan95. I don't care about your subjective views.

I would appreciate it if you would show Spartan95 some respect and allow the member to provide proof to back up his claim. Spartan95 made claims that can be proven with videos. I want to see them. That is all.

I watched both videos. The first video clearly shows a large number of bodyguards, but they were Chinese and not American secret service agents. In other words, it shows the unusual and extraordinary protection that China extended as a courtesy to the President of the United States.

Pardon me, but how did you come to that conclusion?

If you pause the vid on the 22sec mark, you can clearly see some of the people in black jackets are clearly not Chinese. A few of them can actually be seen scanning the area too.

At the 25sec mark, it is true that there are a few Chinese behind Obama. However, there are also several non-Chinese as well.

I am also looking forward to your videos regarding comparable bodyguards and vehicles for the Queen of England. Once again, I would appreciate it if you don't show me a huge number of Chinese bodyguards accompanying the Queen of England in China.

I see you have made no mention of the link with 22 vehicles in the Queen of England's motorcade. While it is true that 22 vehicles isn't close to the 33 in the Chinese President's motorcade, it should also be noted that the 22 may not have been the entire motorcade as the last bit of the video didn't show the rearguard outriders (as is the case for all motorcades of this nature). Thus, that particular motorcade may have been larger than 22 vehicles.

Anyway, I still looking for links that are available on the internet. I must say that I'm rather disappointed that my local news footage can't be found on the internet, particularly those of the Queen of England's visit to Singapore in Mar 2006.

For his recent trip to London, the work called on the expertise of 904 civilian staff from the Department of Defense, 600 from the Armed Services, 250 Secret Service officers, 205 White House staff, 103 US Information Agency staff, 44 Department of State staff, 30 more from the Departments of Agriculture, Commerce, Labour, Transportation and Treasury, 18 Senior Advance Office staff, 16 members of Congress (to tick legal boxes) and 12 sniffer dogs.

Large crowds of protesters outside his hotel or to wherever he's going. To be fair the same thing happens when the Pres. Of the USA. visits. (George Bush)

The video of President Obama visiting the Great Wall of China shows that most of the bodyguards were Chinese. A few were Americans, but most of them were not.

I saw the news headline that Clinton had 20 bodyguards. That's good enough for me.

The visit of the Queen of England to Turkey and being accompanied by the President of Turkey is not a very good picture. The number of bodyguards is unclear and it is also unclear whether those are the bodyguards for the President of Turkey, who is at risk of being assassinated by Muslim extremists.

I am afraid that I have to ask you for another news headline, picture, or video for the numerous Queen of England's bodyguards that you claim.

Regarding the 22 vehicle entourage for the Queen of England, your proof is insufficient for two reasons. Firstly, 22 is only 2/3 of 33. For example, we would consider a 6-foot tall man to be impressive. However, a 4-foot tall dwarf (e.g. 2/3 of 6 feet) is not comparable.

Secondly, speculation is not proof. If, as you claim, the Queen of England is accompanied by a convoy of comparable number to the President of China then there should be plenty of video footage to prove your point. For example, the videos of President Hu in Seattle and in Pakistan show clearly that his convoy equals or exceeds 33 vehicles.

You're making progress. You have proven 1 out of your 3 claims. There are two more to go. At the end of this process, if you're right, I will apologize to you and I would have learned something new. If you're wrong, I get the right to proclaim that my video posts are unusual and interesting. The proof is up to you.

I can't believe we're actually having a discussion on this topic.

If the length and content of a motorcade indicates how big or important the person is, then I guess funeral motorcades in Taiwan with truckloads of strippers make the deceased more important than living heads of state.

I feel that this is a perfect example of making something out of nothing. So what if China's leaders have massive security detail? Of course, it could mean that China tries to show off its awsome force. even so, does it mean the price of such show-of-force is nothing to China, or does it mean that china's govn't is simply "slapping its own face so that it could look fat"? So many possibilities.

It could also mean that China's secret service is not as efficient as their counterparts in other nations. It feels that it needs more people to complete the same job that could be done by fewer people in other nations. It's hard to prove which one it is. So my point? It's worthless and complete waste of time to discuss matters like this. My apologies to those who might feel offended. That's NOT my intention at all.

You raise good points. Is it showmanship a la here's my 747-sized Boeing Jumbo Jet Air Force One on your tarmac or is it a question of bodyguard efficiency?

Unfortunately, I'm locked in a far more serious debate. I'm fighting for my thread. The charge has been made that my thread is not the spectacle that I expected. The claim is that extremely long convoys and extreme bodyguard protection are typical.

If Spartan95 can prove that the Queen of England receives similar treatment as the President of China then my thread is indeed "toast" and I will owe him/her a humiliating apology. It would also mean that I wasted hours on YouTube to select the best videos.
