Hong-Kong Protests

The sentences being given out is a joke. This wont create a deterrence. The big fishes need to get the death penalty only then will those below them fear the law.

So far, the convictions have been about illegal protest for the "ring leaders", not treason/secession. I suspect these are warning sentences, the next group of people trying to break the law will likely get heavier penalty going forward as their is no more toleration for this type of behavior from Beijing. It will be interesting what kinda penalty the people convicted under NSL will get.

Yes the hidden message was, ok you partied during the HK protests, you all get 1 yr in jail to understand your mistakes.

However after the NSL, anyone arrested will get a long sentence so be good puppies.

Turn over yourselves to the autorities, get your 1 yr punishment and dont do anything again. You are not allowed anymore to do these kind of protests

All those treason/secession, and colluding with foreigners laws introduced on June 30, 2020, are not retroactive. So all these yellow zombies and separatists only got illegal protest convictions, for what they did before that.
