Do what the US does

Why would you want to copy a country that (presumably) you don't agree with? I frequently see "but whatabout the US" on this forum, when I struggle to see anyone say that the US is great.

Surely it's better to do the right thing and use the law in a fair way to prosecute actual crimes whilst preserving the presumption of innocence, as opposed to twisting legislation to convict people you simply don't like.

This Jimmy Lai has comitted treason and will be dealt with by the national security law.

Well technically not since he is Canadian.

But HK should charge him with treason and make him make that his defence to make his loyalties abundantly clear for all to see.

Then convict him as a foreign agent and a spy.
They also captured top executives of his Apple Daily. We will know soon from where they got their orders and funding for committing subversive activities in Hong Kong.

Someone here is a bit butt hurt that one of his hero's have been taken in. Claiming:

On what law can China confiscate his asset? Why should China's treatment of its criminals be the same as the USA, especially when we complaint so much about USA?

Such delusional thinking!

First China's national security law is all embracing. Why shouldn't China seized his illgotten assets? In any case this is a mute point, don't you think people like him would have hidden his liquid illgoten gains off shore somewhere. But on a matter principle, China should definately seized his houses in Hong Kong.

On the second point, and here I feel he's understanding about most of us here is wrong. Most of us here lives in the USA, UK, canada and Oz etc. The five eyes! When we criticise the West is usually because of their policy and actions against China. Not because of their law and order. (Although there are rooms for improvement just as it is in China). Particularly recently when we saw what happened in the USA, and thinks this is what hyprocracy looks like.

@plawolf

Wolfie got a good point regarding treason. Technically he is a Canadian citizen. So I'm wondering if Trudeau will stick his neck out again for this traitor (in my mind he's still a traitor. Yes born in China, and he illicit foreigners to change China/Hong Kong whilst still living in China/Hong kong)!

Here it is folks, Lai discussing why he and the movement should illicit foreigners to support their cause. Sorry it's in Cantonese.
He basically says the cause is useless without foreign help. Because foreigners are hard, etc. He even named the countries as USA, Europe and Japan etc.

There's enough on this few minutes clip only to incriminate himself.

Hong Kong's national security laws also provides the legal basis for capturing foreigners. So even if this Jimmy Lai is foreigner, HK government can still capture this clown.
