Hong-Kong Protests

I know it's about a week old. (I have been away, enforced and voluntarily) So it's old news, But still worth informing you guys of this.

After Jimmy lai's arrest, he can on air and pled for "donation" for his media empire. Apparently, his newspaper is bleeding money and he has to prop it up with his personal funds in the millions.

Well, the chicken finally come home to roost. Apparently readership is down. Advertising revenue is down. Well well, Hardly surprising giving the chaos caused by the young students over the last nine months (with your papers enthusiastic encouragement).

I wonder if they were crying about how they were innocent little children that could do no wrong.

Did anyone also see other stories that mentioned supporters showed up to the courthouse raising their stupid 5 finger gesture?
Surely people are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty, but to do this sort of theatrics means they consider the elderly man's death nothing but a joke.
Sad

It makes sense if you start comparing these people to ISIS

Yes. It's absolute joke. These people no knows boundaries of decency. They are gathering in the mall again (abiet in smaller crowds) in the middle of a pandemic! Please enough is enough. Demanding their "freedom" when Hong Kong is officially the third freest place in the world!

And only a few days ago, text books in junior school try to rewrite history about the opium war. They try to suggest it is only a "trade war"! Now I don't know about you guys, but when I was growing up in the UK. Many of my cohorts thought it was about "trade" too until you look further (But how many average high school students bother to look further?)

So basically, these teachers are trying to brain wash the young students and direct them into their anti-China mentality.

I wonder how HK will handle the shock once it's fully returned. I mean imagine seeing everything wrong with the empire from the past 100 years and even more so the recent events. How much was lied or hidden away?

Sad thing is, it hasn't always been like this. I grew up in Hong Kong, under British colonial rule. Went to junior school. But we all knew about the opium war. And how Britain got it's hands on Hong Kong, and later New Territory (with revolts etc.) We knew this from our parents and elders and, to be fair, from school texts, right under the British colonial masters.

So how can these modern day teachers, parents and elders in the last 23 years since end of colonial rule managed to change the narratives so sucessfully? So much so these youngsters (all born after handover) think so differently to me, a generation before? I'm baffled!

That's actually a very interesting question. I'm surprise why no one has ever done any credible research on that.

Guys. I got this story mixed up slightly with my experiences with young English people ref to trade. (not thinking clearly. Still on medications for my heart) sorry.

Here's a English version link for you guys to read. The premise is still the same. That the texts tries to mislead their students. But it should have been about smoking (in Chinese opium is opium-smoking) and it was the British that tries to ban opium-smoking! (Even worse)!
