Most photo fakers wouldn't have the patient to spend long hours to make a fake photo looks real and would rather spend only half an hour or so to fake a photo, which is about how long it would take to paint the "LERX" in the picture.

I can see why a SU 34 type aircraft fits the bill for them. It makes logical sense to me. Extremely long legs, long loiter time, multi mission capable, great weapons loadout making it an ideal anti ship and area denial platform. The huge radome will no doubt house a powerful AESA for long range search and track.
If they decide to forward base these type of assets in large numbers on the artificial islands it would significantly boost their capabilities and cover almost all of SCS. It's also a natural replacement for the likes of jh7.

on a more serious tone kind of a let down, I was hoping for something more ambitious.
Speaking of Ambition and out of left field here but, Assuming this is the J(H)18 and it's derived from the J16 which is more or less a updated J11. Then Is it possible for the PLANAF to do the same to the J15? I mean J15 is also based off the J11 family and the Flanker line. Sure it would loose some of the payload but if you could get a Navalized Fullback you could task it for a wider range of more specialized missions ASW, Air Tanker, strike bomber, maybe some degree of AEW.
