J-10C shooting down rafales were more significant than the 6th gen reveal. It was literally the first time a 4.5th gen fighter was shot down and proved that China wasn't just making shit up about its capabilities. Also, Americans has A LOT of cope against 6th gen reveals like saying how B-21 was the first 6th gen and how NGAD actually first flew in 2021, if J-10Cs didn't prove itself people would still be calling the 6th gens propaganda pieces.

DeepSeek was great but if it never existed there would have been a qwen moment or something else, China completely dominates open source ai either way.

My top 3 would be:
1) May 7th turkey shoot
2) 6th gen
3) sept 3
Neither the CPC nor PLA have made any outlandish claims about the military tech capabilities of China. As a matter of fact so much of it is under wraps that people come to this site for information.

As 2025 draws to a close, it’s time for some retrospective and vote for the single greatest PRC win in the military, technological, softpower, and/or geopolitical sphere. After you’ve voted please comment why you think your choice is correct.

In 1972, Chinese premier Zhou Enlai was asked about the impact of the French Revolution. “Too early to say,”

Except he meant the 1968 Paris riots, not the 1789 Revolution.

@tphuang mentioned Deepseek at the time the 6th gens were revealed and said it might actually be the more important thing in the long run, but nobody was really paying attention.

Assuming nothing interesting comes out before this Christmas, I would say the turkey-shoot is the biggest win. It served as a concrete validation of equipment performance, beyond just training exercises. Granted, it was against India, but it's still very meaningful. I personally observed a lot of Western talking points on Chinese aircraft being swept under the rug afterwards.

As far as wins, I would go with the final roll out of birth subsidies and marriage registration reforms that have helped to stabilize the marriage rate for at least the first three quarters of the year.

Although the birth subsidies are far too low, they represent the government crossing a symbolic barrier, because they are the first ever nationwide birth subsidies since the founding of the PRC. That means that in the past five years, China has reversed 50 years of anti-natal policy. Now, they just need to go at this mission as hard as they did for previous campaigns such as the Four Modernizations.

It's tough to chose, I chose rare earth restriction mainly because of the it showed the world China can use it's strategic leverage if anyone has funny ideas.

Are these wins defined within the framework of being good for China, investing in its future progress and success? or for global perception?

Because some are clearly better for perception e.g. Chinese export 4.5 gen older fighter shooting down multiple latest western 4.5 gen fighters and some 4th gen fighters. This while great for perception of Chinese capabilities isn't great for allowing China to continuing its relative stealthy ascend. It's better to be underestimated.

China is revealing how far ahead it is. It's not revealing it intentionally most of the time but it's too hard to hide and the China haters are more motivated by hate and insecurity so they interpret obvious signals of China being so far ahead with the delusion that it's China bots promoting it when it's usually just regular people or China defenders saying those things and promoting those truths.

E.g. China isn't the one promoting how much its car exports are rising and how great their cars are. It's often their competitors doing that and media.

China hid most of the latest military developments during September parade, toning down just how far ahead it is. There are many goodies that would show how many times the US is being lapped militarily by China if it revealed some more secretive strategic weapons. While it's also an occasion for internal celebration, the intention there was not to promote some military superiority over the US even though ;) we know.
