Do you guys think that China will be able to catch up with the United States in Science & Technology, Economics, Military and Education in next 30 or 50 years? If so, why do think so? If not, why not? Every one is welcomed to argue and discuss this topic?

Well, in terms of GDP, if China were to maintain it current annual economic growth rate, it would catch up the USA in about 30 years. But that is a huge oversimplification, thirty years is a long time and the physical effects of China increasing its economy eight times over from todays position, would be very dramatic.

Most of the things you ask are really outside of the scope of this particular military forum and questions such as yours can result in considerable flaming between more excitable members of both Chinese and American Origins.

Dare I suggest, that if you are interested in exploring more of China's development, now and into the future, that you follow the link in my signature, at the bottom of this post.;) :china:

Your question is very deep and complicated to answer in a few short words. One would have to take each area that you mentioned and thoroughly investigate it to get any kind of an answer. But I will say that so many things can happen in this world that it is diffecult to predict anything and add to that the fact that the world political situation is changing at a very fast pace. I think that overall the Chinese are doing very well for a country that is just emerging into the world scene in recent history. There is no doubt that China will do very good in all those areas in the future but your question is when they will overtake the U.S. There may be such things as natural disasters to consider that could effect either(or both) countries. But yours is a good question.

China's biggest weakness is its cultural narrow-mindedness.

Chinese people often think everybody else in the world holds the same values and traditions as do people in China.

For example, Chinese people often think everybody in the world honors their parents and ancestors the same way Chinese people do (xiao shun).

This extends to all areas of interpersonal customs, really. Chinese people simply cannot imagine other cultures and societies where interpersonal relationships are different.

Another example, Chinese people think that, because wealth is status in China, wealth must be status everywhere else in the world too. But in fact, status can include things other than wealth in other countries.

In contrast, people educated in the West can at least IMAGINE other societies with different cultural beliefs and values, even though they might disagree with those values or find them distasteful. Chinese people can't even imagine this, and instead thinks everybody in the world holds Chinese cultural values.

The only way China can resolve this weakness is by increasing social science education -- especially psychology, sociology and anthropology.

This is very interesting but hardly constitutes a general military discussion.

If you want to discuss economic development of politics use either
