French President Emmanuel Macron announced yesterday that French Navy (Marine Nationale) Mistral-class LHDs Mistral and Dixmude will be deployed to Reunion Island and the Caribbean in support of the Coronavirus relief efforts. These new deployments will take place as part of the new operation "Résilience".

While visiting a military field hospital in Eastern France yesterday, Emmanuel Macron announced that first ship of class Mistral will support relief efforts in the Southern Indian Ocean (where the French islands of Reunion and Mayotte are located). Dixmude is set to be deployed to the French Antilles and French Guyana area.

French Navy LHD Dixmude Set Sails for Covid-19 Relief Mission in the Caribbean

The French Navy (Marine Nationale) Mistral-class LHD Dixmude set sails for the French Antilles in the Caribbean this morning. The vessel will be providing assistance to the French territories affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, as part of Operation Résilience.

Dixmude is set to be on theater in mid-Arpil. It could then head to Guyana as needed. As a first step, the vessel is being used to ship medical equipment and supplies from mainland France. The Dixmude may be used under the command of the local armed forces to provide logistical or transport missions in order to guarantee the populations basic needs. In particular, it is carrying:

Four helicopters
Two disinfection teams from the French Army “2e régiment de Dragons”
Over 170,000 FFP2 masks.
Over a million surgical masks.
Several hundred liters of hydro-alcoholic gel.

French Navy Starts Testing L22 Next Gen Data Link Aboard FREMM Normandie

The French Navy (Marine Nationale) started tests of the Link 22 (L22) secure digital radio data link. The tests were recently conducted in the North Atlantic by FREMM Frigate "Normandie" with the Royal Canadian Navy and the Royal Netherlands Navy.

A surprise company outing to an air base caused a 64-year-old French man so much stress that he flung himself from a fighter jet in midair, grabbing the ejector button in a panic and tumbling through the skies above France before landing in a field.

Since it happened on a French Air Force Dassault Rafale B jet, so I think it is appropriate to post it here.

The third Atlantique 2 (ATL2) maritime patrol aircraft (MPA) upgraded by Dassault Aviation, Thales and Naval Group was delivered by DGA to the French Navy (Marine Nationale) at the Lann-Bihoué naval air base.

The “Standard 6” upgrade work includes:

A new radar: The Thales Search Master with active antenna,
A new acoustic subsystem by Thales: It gathers and processes signals from the latest-generation of sonobuoys for submarine detection,
A new navigation console designed by Dassault Aviation,
New consoles for the tactical display subsystem, developed by SIAé
