If they intend to one day make these training ships, wouldn't they at least want to add one EMAL for launching off the landing side of the deck?
It is likely that the port shoulder launch position's jet blast deflector mechanisms could interfere with the left-side of the arresting gear system's mechanicsms right underneath the flight deck, especially when considering the EMCAT's length (as shown in Big Bun CG's illustration below).
Though, the remedies which I can think of are:
1. Reduce the length of the port shoulder EMCAT; and/or
2. Bring the port shoulder EMCAT further forward, with its front end extruding the forward end of the angled landing strip deck. This is somewhat similar to the "bridle catcher" structures on older US carriers (shown below).
That said, I'm fine with having only two EMCATs on the STOBAR twins, should they receive modifications for CATOBAR operations in the future. And perhaps one EMCAT on the bow-port side and another EMCAT on the shoulder-port side is a better choice, too.
That is, they don't need to have three EMCATS like Fujian.
