The decision has been condemned by Argentina, which described it as a "provocative act".

During the programme, which is broadcast today, Prince Andrew also spoke of coming under attack from a missile while aboard HMS Invincible.

"There are moments of hilarity that I remember," he said. "We were under missile attack one day and a friend of mine and I were trying to finish a Rubik’s cube and just as the missile attack was taking place, we completed it and we were told to lie on the floor, take cover on the deck with this completed Rubik’s cube between us.

"I always thought, imagine what people would have thought if something ghastly happened and two bodies were found with a Rubik’s cube between them. It brought home to me how fragile we are as human beings."

Ok I've done some more 'real' digging on this and there may be some evidence suggesting that the argies did attempt to launch an Exocet at hms invincible HOWEVER it never struck nor hit her or any of her escorts etc.

Based on that I guess everyone is somewhat right including the argentine pilot.

HMS invincible may have been under a missile attack condition because a super etendard may have launch a missile so that's that I guess. We don't know what happened to the Exocet..maybe it ran out of fuel, went off course, bad targeting or whatever but it never hit anything. That part is certain!

The pilot reserves the right to paint the marker with a single slash as oppose to a red 'X' since there was no confirm hit nor a kill but an 'attempt'.

I think that's really what happened.

I agree, there was an attack, the Price Andrew admits it, the FAA pilots also say it happened, but it probably did not damage it, or if it did it was a minimum, some people say the Exocet exploded in the sea, or it was downed, but i like you at least open to that, the kill on the super etendard is for damaged it, not sunk.

Bull well all of you were asking for a guy who admits the attack, and Prince Andrew says there was an attack on it. who is better than a British Royal to admit it

The Duke of York has spoken of his "anxiety" at Britain's military action over the Falklands in 1982.

Duke of York was in the ship and the guy says" Prince Andrew also spoke of coming under attack from a missile while aboard HMS Invincible"

There you have a Royal admits the attack, a British Royal, Helicopter pilot in 1982 aboard the ship:)

I think if you have wrote that waaaay in the beggining people might given you the benefit of the doubt but instead you went straight for the big kahuna as in an Exocet struck the invincible and may have even sunk it! LOL

That is ridiculous conspiracy theory that is based on ZERO evidence.

Now, if there was an actual missile launch and the radar picked it up way yonder, folks went into battle stations, high alert maybe some guy called vampire inbound on the 1MC that could entirely be possible... And then nothing because the missile took a drink for whatever reasons.

That is entirely plausible which also collaborate the duke's account. He never said anything about getting hit. All he said was the ship came 'under' attack which fits my earlier explanation.

The argentine pilot came home, landed and painted his mark on his aircraft with a single slash and a big grin and tall tale to his buddies, got the girls because he 'successfully' launched a missile at a carrier and then boogie outta there asap

In retelling a story from decades ago A memory of a missile drill can suddenly become the real thing.
The link I gave goes into the Official reports and uses more than one side.
The Claimed attack
“A minute later, I saw something in front of us, unmistakably enormous and majestic. We were approaching the stern of the Invincible. I called the flight leader…’The aircraft carrier is in front of us!’ – We began the attack, two from each side. As we were getting near, smoke began to come out from both sides of the tower, caused by the impact of the Exocet, and this became more and more dense. about thirteen kilometres out, I saw an explosion on my left; that was First Lieutenant Vasquez’s plane shot down. Lieutenant Ureta was now the leader, with Lieutenant Castillo and me on each side. We were almost there – about two kilometres from the target – when another explosion hit Castillo’s plane and the shock wave shook my aircraft. I angrily pressed my gun button. When I reached the target, it was already covered in smoke. Its bulk covered everything in front of me; I pressed the bomb release and made a turn so as not to crash into the tower, which was still concealed by the smoke. The leader also released his bomb in front of me. as I departed, the aircraft carrier had completely lost its shape; it was just a cloud of smoke in the middle of the sea. Then we reached the coast and landed. The runway was full of people – there were tears, congratulations, embraces, questions and more tears…”

It covers the British Official Report
the British warships were certainly well aware of the approaching aircraft and the Exocet having been deployed although their radars detected the force coming directly towards the screen of Type 42 destroyers and not as designed, towards the rear of the task force. t had been a 700-mile mission for the Argentine pilots and, in foul weather and with less accurate guidance systems, they had approached too far to the east. The Type 21 frigate HMS Avenger was actually out on the lead and, as other ships and nearby helicopters deployed missiles and chaff, she turned and opened up with her 4.5 inch main gun. The Exocet missile was seen to run out of fuel and crash into the sea and one of the shot down Skyhawks plummeted into the sea next to Avenger from where some wreckage, documents and even the remains of the pilot were recovered. Two Argentine aircraft had be shot down, their last Exocet had tumbled into the sea and the Invincible was still 30 nautical miles away…the report is corroborated by 170 sailors from the Avenger hundreds more from other nearby ships and, critically, by 1,100 men on the Invincible to include sailors, airmen, the entire British press (never ones to keep silent even when they should) and His Royal Highness Prince Andrew…and every single one of them is still alive…this is a major hole in Ensign Isaac’s story! An aircraft carrier packed with men, fuel, munitions, not to mention just under half of Britain’s aircraft, all of which were still intact at the end…well how does that happen?
And It covers how it was spun

The kill never said sunk, it said hit, i never said it was sunk, to be honest i do not know what happened because both sides will lie, but at least you have the duke and the pilots admitting it happened, if the exocet was downed, crashed or hit, well that is another history, because to know what happen you need at least both sides admitting the true, the British said in many sources the Argentine pilots were lying, the attack never happened, you can not say they were open.

I do not know if it hit and damaged the ship, or it missed, i only know for sure 4 A-4s and 2 Super Etendard flew the mission, 2 Skyhawks were downed, an exocet was fired, a British royal, a Duke admits the carrier came under attack, two Argentine pilots died, only that the rest is speculation, for that said just enjoy the picture, we can speculate what happened, but the kill in the super Etendard does not say Sunk, it says damaged.
If it is true or not who knows

B747 The Easiest Way Argentina could win this claim would be to release Gun Camera footage of the event. Aircraft normally have a Camera in there systems meant for just this kind of thing to confirm combat reports and those camera's are wired into the weapons system of fighters to be triggered on attack.
And After 34 years there should be no reason not to release that If it shows an attack on the Invincible. There is no Cobritive evidence for any missile attack other than Claims made and Statements without context. I have seen Hollywood movies with more Evidence.
