F-35 Joint Strike Fighter News, Videos and pics Thread

NO EXCUSES MR JURA!, if you level an accusation of a cover up, the very least you should do prior to making completely unfounded accusations is to familiarize yourself with the circumstances surrounding the incident....

Now, here we have the F-35A customer making an educated assessment and coming to the most logical conclusion possible... with each of the factors given, night, heavy maneuvering, very, very high rate of decent! what other possible conclusion could a logical man or woman reach???

So if the Japanese were disputing the claim of spatial disorientation, then you might level an accusation?? but the customer is stating that their operator and aircraft perished due to likely spatial disorientation

Feel free to overlook the cartoon illustrations and read the very outstanding and informative text, in the mean time I would suggest you withdraw your baseless accusation unless you are able to find some evidence of a cover-up....

As I've observed several times, your formative years as a member of the USSR has created a great deal of distrust, to the point of paranoia??

For starters Mr. Hosomi was in a left bank, so likely pulling a few G's as well, please do read the excellent informative as to causative factors to "spatial disorientation"!

The last 30 seconds of the crash event in pictorial form. Based on facts as evident in the last 30 secs, a number of factors were progressively ruled out such as hypoxia, G-LOC, and plane malfunction which lead to the conclusion of spatial disorientation.

I'm not a pilot or anything, but wouldn't his HMD give enough info to show that he should probably pullup?

A string of articles have hit the news wire over at Defense News reporting on a bunch of problems with the F-35, some of which have never been reported before.

There are too many articles to post individually.

This one seems a good Omnibus of the issues.

The 13 deficiencies include:

  • The F-35’s logistics system currently has no way for foreign F-35 operators to keep their secret data from being sent to the United States.
  • The spare parts inventory shown by the F-35’s logistics system does not always reflect reality, causing occasional mission cancellations.
  • Cabin pressure spikes in the cockpit of the F-35 have been known to cause barotrauma, the word given to extreme ear and sinus pain.
  • In very cold conditions — defined as at or near minus 30 degrees Fahrenheit — the F-35 will erroneously report that one of its batteries have failed, sometimes prompting missions to be aborted.
  • Supersonic flight in excess of Mach 1.2 can cause structural damage and blistering to the stealth coating of the F-35B and F-35C.
  • After doing certain maneuvers, F-35B and F-35C pilots are not always able to completely control the aircraft’s pitch, roll and yaw.
  • If the F-35A and F-35B blows a tire upon landing, the impact could also take out both hydraulic lines and pose a loss-of-aircraft risk.
  • A “green glow” sometimes appears on the helmet-mounted display, washing out the imagery in the helmet and making it difficult to land the F-35C on an aircraft carrier.
  • On nights with little starlight, the night vision camera sometimes displays green striations that make it difficult for all variants to see the horizon or to land on ships.
  • The sea search mode of the F-35’s radar only illuminates a small slice of the sea’s surface.
  • When the F-35B vertically lands on very hot days, older engines may be unable to produce the required thrust to keep the jet airborne, resulting in a hard landing.

1 and 2 are known. Jura has posted a number of times issues with ALIS.
Issues 3is new but not surprising as there have been issues of that in other fighters lately.
Issue 4 is new.
Issue 5 is new. It must be an issue with the Naval coatings as A isn’t listed with the problem.
Issue 6 seems like an issue unique to C
Issue 7 is new.
Issue 8 and issue 9 are known. Last I heard a fix was coming in the next helmet.
10 is new.
11 is unique to older blocks.

wondering if DefenseNews changed the owner perhaps?

no more malarkey like 'sensor fusion', 'situational awareness', 'game changer', 'kill ratios', I ask why?

instead for example

The F-35 squadron that deployed to Europe in late May has transitioned from Aviano AB, Italy, to Spangdahlem AB, Germany, where they will be based for the rest of their summer-long deployment.

The F-35s from the 388th and 419th Fighter Wings at Hill AFB, Utah, deployed to Aviano on May 23 and participated in the Astral Knight exercise, where they flew alongside a USAF B-52 and Italian Air Force aircraft.

At Spangdahlem, the aircraft will participate in exercises and train with other Europe-based aircraft, US Air Forces in Europe said in a June 11

For example, F-35s have flown to exercises in Spain and Switzerland, and are set to appear at the Paris Air Show next week.

This is the aircraft’s second deployment to Europe, the 34th Fighter Squadron
