I'd love to see the ROC get the F-35...but I doubt it will ever happen.

Well, Trump is on a roll, give him some time to get the ball rolling,,, I've got to confess, I'm wondering how the "art of the deal" will work with these two potential partners,, go F-35, and to be honest, I would be pleased to see both of these defense partners get the best airplane, they will need it!

I suspect that if the Taiwanese air Force ever gats to be a F35 operator 1, they would push for the F35B type and 2, I don't expect anything before 2030.

I rather expect you're right about the B model, but I'm thinking purchase could happen much earlier if the threat levels continue to rise as rapidly as they have...

I'm so happy to see you posting these brother! I really missed your input on those initial carrier trials several years ago, in fact it was almost melancholy to see those Charlie's coming aboard and no "BD KOOL KOMMENTARY"!

So I'm thrilled to hear you're flight deck commentary! You and Master Jeff bring a wealth of experience and with our Brother Kwai,, we are truly blessed!

... "Big Medicine" for their budgets hahaha

of course Jura, when they can buy one for 100 million, and in the country next door? they can build one for 130 million, yes it will give their defense budget more bang for the buck.. producing a 5 gen from scratch is tremendously expensive, China who are very efficient manufacturing lots of things including aircraft, have spent a lot of money relatively speaking bringing out their 5 gen aircraft..

not only is design and manufacturing complicated, but individual aircraft and their components remain very expensive, that's why folks are having a cow on the J-20 thread over the improved method of manufacturing "meta material".

The proof of that statement is that China can whip out Flankers by the gross, but have to build J-20's one at a time, and current production would seem to around 20 aircraft at present?? (that's a wild guess, and another 1/2 dozen or even dozen could be the case, but we see little evidence for that??)

F-35B Begins First Shipboard Deployment

The Marine Corps’ F-35B Lightning II strike fighter began its first operational shipboard deployment on March 19, Navy officials said.

A six-aircraft detachment of Marine Fighter-Attack Squadron 121, based at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, was on board the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp as it began its spring patrol in the Western Pacific. The Wasp Expeditionary Strike Group (ESG), with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Group embarked, is on a routine patrol of the Indo-Pacific region.

“For the first time, the 31st MEU will conduct its missions utilizing the F-35B Lighting II, which flew aboard amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1), March 5,” a March 20 release from Amphibious Squadron 11 noted. “The fifth-generation aircraft can support precision strike, close-air support for Marines inserted inland, and relay over-the-horizon information to aid the commander’s battlefield awareness.”

The Wasp ESG include Wasp, amphibious dock landing ship USS Ashland, amphibious transport dock ship USS Green Bay and the guided-missile destroyer USS Dewey.

Dewey “will support operations and practice missions that benefit the overall capability of the landing forces and survival ability of amphibious ships in the blue water domain,” the release said. “The addition of Dewey and the F-35B advances U.S. Pacific Fleet’s Up-Gunned ESG that leverages advanced sensors and weapons systems to allow expeditionary forces to operate in multi-threat maritime environments.”

The F-35Bs replace the AV-8B Harrier II attack aircraft that have deployed for decades on amphibious assault ships.

Well...we kn ow that both S. Korea and Japna are going to have the F-35A...I mean we arleady knew that was going to happen.

I think, with both of themhaving very decent Jump carriers that it would not be surprising at all to hear of them buying a couple of squadrons each of the Bravos. No...would not be surprising at all.
