No doubt it would be a major setback, my Dad spent some time at Incirlic hauling "trash" in the C-119 flying boxcar,,, so I'm a long time appreciator of the Turkish People and their country, I am however extremely concerned/disappointed with the direction Turkey has taken under Erdogan?? feel free to "educate me" with your own views?? or maybe reassure me that we are still a good "fit"

If Turkey does choose to buy the S-400?? (why do they need it) from the Russians??? I have no problem pulling the plug on the F-35 deal, I would NOT allow our top-secret 5 gen technology to be "cherry picked" by the Russian's, NO WAY HOSEA!

Very interesting, we just missed being able to live in Saigon in the US Embassy quarters, thankfully that policy was changed prior to my Dad's assignment to the US Embassy! the VC overran the US Embassy Compound during the TET Offensive, happy to say, we were living in a farm house in Central Obamastan, but we got a large amount of snow.

Which means for two carriers they will need four squadrons of ruse by the carriers, and a scquadron for testing and training.

I hope and pray they do not lose nerve or heart.

They are building two excellent carriers and they need to ensure that the aircraft are available for both in the event of any major problems or hostilities.

I hope there very liberal politicians are not successful in neutering the two carries into a single carrier available type thing.
well they face an even bigger issue than the risk of procuring two supercarries without too many aircraft, and that issue is they didn't create a special fund for their boomers replacement, so they would have to find the money in their regular defense budgets (I know they said they would increase those budgets OK it's getting off topic so just the links:

Has the time come to the move the cost of Trident replacement out of the MoD budget?

); anyway it's huge money:

Hehehe...despite the naysaying...despiye the dire warnings that the US would never be able to afford the F-35, or its allies either...the Lockheed and US Military have done EXACTLY what they promised they would do and that was to get the cost down to a price to equal, or evn be lower than that of a fully outfitted, new build modern F-16...and now they are doing it!

The beat goes on and on and on!
:) yes except if you have a Pacifist President LOL normaly you have the number despite that it's capacities remains very important the mass...
The B is the more difficult to build a bit less capable for mass reasons mainly but a little exploit

Lockheed Martin has cleared the F-35 to accurately deliver a full slate of air-to-air and air-to-ground weapons available with go-to-war, Block 3F software.

"The F-35 is combat capable and poised for even more weapons capability growth as we evolve into the future," Lockheed's F-35 executive vice-president and general manager Jeff Babione said in a newsletter to employees earlier this month.

A recent round of testing on test range at China Lake, California validated the delivery accuracy of nine Block 3F weapons, including air interceptors such as Raytheon's AIM-120C7, AIM-9X and MBDA's ASRAAM interceptor. The tests also confirmed delivery accuracy of several munitions, including the 226kg (500lb)-class Paveway IV, GBU-39 small diameter, and GBU-12, as well as the 910kg-class GBU-31 joint direct attack munition and the AGM-154 joint standoff weapon, Babione says. .

The F-35 testing evaluation master plan required Lockheed to complete 26 weapons delivery accuracy events as part of a testing effort that ensures the fighter can deploy its full set of Block 3F weapons.

A 2016 report on the F-35 programme from the Pentagon’s top weapons tester revealed several deficiencies and limitations.

The report detailed mission planning problems with the US Navy’s JSOW missile that could jeopardize the fleet’s ability to attack moving ship targets and allow flexible engagement of targets on land. The report also discovered ongoing radar and fusion deficiencies affecting air-to-air target track stability and accuracy.

Lockheed corrected the issues detailed in the DOT&E report before completing weapons delivery accuracy testing, a Lockheed spokesman tells FlightGlobal.

Meanwhile, the US Air Force awarded a $59.7 million contract last month to Raytheon for the GBU-49 Enhanced Paveway II guided bomb. Integrating the GBU-49, which is able to strike a moving target, marks an interim fix for the F-35 since the fighter’s current electro-optical targeting system does not have a “lead laser guidance” capability.

Flight testing with the GBU-49 will begin this month and the USAF will receive the first 400 guidance kits by the end of January, the service says in a 1 December statement.

When all is said and done, the F-35 is going to be able to carry A LOT of all sorts of weapons...and with the "C" on the carriers, they will be able to carry a lot a long ways.

US allies will benefit tremendously fro the variety because it will include their own weapons as well.
